Applying for an Indian Tourist Visa on Arrival (TVoA) for Filipinos
This is only for Philippine citizens who want to travel to India as a tourist. Other procedures are in place for citizens of other countries. India has included the Philippines among countries which citizens can obtain a tourist visa upon arrival.
Before the new procedures took effect late November last year, a Filipino citizen can apply for a tourist visa upon arrival in any of the designated airports in India. Please note that note that the TVoA facility is not yet available in all the airports in India so make sure to check the this info during your tourist visa application processing. As of this writing, the airports which process the TVoA ETA are Kolkata, Chennai, and New Delhi.
The ETA is not for all travellers, it is only for those who want to visit India for tourism and signt-seeing purposed. Please do note that there are restrictions as to who are eligible to apply it. For those who are not eligible, you must check with your Indian Embassy to ensure that you apply for the right visa. The requirements for the new ETA is still similar to the old requirements: passport with at least six (6) months validity, and with at least 2 blank pages left. payment of US $60 visa fees, return tickets, proof of sufficient money for the visit. Since you have to upload a copy of your photo and passport when applying online, make sure to have both ready.
The new procedure for tourist visa on arrival facility requires that one will have to apply online and make the visa payments online. It is quite easy because you only need to fill up a form in the site, upload a photo and passport page, make the payments via credit card and your application will be processed within 24-72 hours. Upon receipt of your ETA via email, you only have to print it and bring it with you when you fly to your city of destination in India.
It is a very convenient way to apply for the tourist since there are no lines and worries that one has to think about. Upon arrival at the airport, one just needs to look for the counter for TVoA which is often found before reaching the Immigration counter. The officer manning the counter will gladly assist you by getting your biometrics and copy of ETA, then if all is proper, you will get your stamp on the passport. This now allows you to legally stay in India from 30 days from date of arrival.
The TVoA electronic procedure will definitely help boost travel for Philippine citizens and encourage them to add India to their travel itineraries.
