Old Orchard Beach Maine for the Perfect Family Vacation
Old Orchard Beach, located in the beautiful state of Maine, has to be one of the best vacation spots a true beach lover can go to. For a fun packed holiday, Old Orchard offers not only fun in the sun, great restaurants, fabulous camping, cottages, house rentals, golf, nightly entertainment, surfing, fishing, and beachcombing but some of the friendliest people I have ever met. No matter what age you are you will find many fun actives to fill your time.
The Pier at Old Orchard Beach has been constructed three times since 1898. The first pier that was built out of steel and had a casino and ballroom for 5,000 dancers. Between the first and second world war, the Casino hosted acts such as Frank Sinatra, Benny Goodman, Guy Lombardo, and Louis Armstrong. Due to several storms and a fire in 1969, the Pier has been modified. Unfortunately, the Casino was demolished in 1970. The original pier was 1700 feet and the current pier is 500 feet that houses souvenir shops, places to get pizza, fries, hot dogs and cheeseburgers. At the very end of the pier, there is a nightclub.
Fun Water Sports
With seven miles of sandy beach, Old Orchard is perfect for swimming in the Atlantic Ocean, body surfing, sunbathing, walking along the shore or combing the sands early in the morning for seashells and sea glass.

Favorite Ocean Quotes
I find myself at the extremity of a long beach. How gladly does the spirit leap forth, and suddenly enlarge its sense of being to the full extent of the broad, blue, sunny deep! A greeting and an homage to the Sea! I descend over its margin, and dip my hand into the wave that meets me, and bathe my brow. That far-resounding roar is the Ocean's voice of welcome. His salt breath brings a blessing along with it. ~Nathaniel Hawthorne, "Foot-prints on the Sea-shore"
The cure for anything is salt water - sweat, tears, or the sea. ~Isak Dinesen
On A Personal Note
Old Orchard Beach has always had a special place in my heart as far back as I can remember. This is where family members and I would go every summer for a relaxing fun-filled two-week beach vacation. It was like a family reunion. For over fifty years now different family members have been making the trip from Montreal, Boston, and Ontario. My uncle and my dad would go golfing almost every day and all the aunts, mothers and children would head down to the beach. At night we would have campfires, clam bakes and a great time. As a child, my favorite place was The Palace Playland and the Pier. One of my favorite memories is getting up at 4 am to go seashell hunting (beach combing) with my dad.
I would recommend Old Orchard Beach for everyone that can make the trip.
