A brief background of the two places -

Choosing between Palawan or Boracay would be extremely difficult without a brief background of the two. So here is a gist of the things to do on both places.

Palawan -

  • Known for its unspoiled beauty
  • Magnificent natural view and resources
  • True definition of tranquility and relaxation
  • Ideal for love ones - couples or family vacation

Boracay -

  • Better with a group than just a couple
  • Offers numerous fun and exciting activities
  • Never a dull and boring moment

Palawan and Boracay are two of Philippines top tourist destinations. These two Philippines tourist attractions are known for its beauty and things to do that makes it an enticing place to visit for both locals and foreign nationals. However, this post will not expand on what are the island activities to do on either Palawan or Boracay as this was already tackled on older posts. Instead this post aims to highlight which one would be a better pick for certain tastes of different individuals.

Let us begin with this statement:

"people who are looking for a tranquil and peaceful time with his or her loved one/s while enjoying the magnificent beauty of nature would surely enjoy Palawan more than Boracay".

Palawan’s El Nido island is sure to bring awe to any of her visitors. On the other hand, people who are looking for a fun and exciting time would be better off to choose Boracay.

Why visit Palawan?

The answer is quite simple – because of El Nido. Hands down, the natural and preserved beauty of El Nido Palawan is one of the best in the entire world. In fact, this claim has been backed by different organizations and can be read on different international magazines and online articles. El Nido Palawan has this enchanting ambiance that makes her visitors feel safe and always at ease. During our three day and two night stay at the Lagen resort of El Nido, the staff sees to it that we are properly accommodated – actually it’s more like pampered.

As mentioned, Lagen is more suitable for people who want to have an intimate time with their loved ones - honeymooners, with family, etc... Couples who want to bring the romance back in their relationship or celebrating any highlights of their relationship would surely enjoy a stay in Lagen El Nido. Additionally, parents who want their children to appreciate and see unspoiled beauty of nature, clear waters, and fishes swimming along the shores can never go wrong with El Nido.

Even though there are tons of things to do in Lagen El Nido, the schedule is properly setup that the visitor does not have to worry about missing any of the many island activities in El Nido.

Personally – and based on on experience, yours truly prefers El Nido Palawan over Boracay.

Why visit Boracay?

Of course just because I prefer El Nido Palawan over Boracay doesn't necessarily mean that Boracay is not enjoyable. It’s just that Boracay has too many things to offer that the usual three day two night stay is not enough. There are tons activities in Boracay that anyone looking for a relaxing or peaceful time may not have in Boracay. Sure Boracay also offers some of nature’s wonders like white sand beaches, clear waters, awesome view, etc..., but Boracay is well known for its plethora of things to do like Banana boating, sailing, jet skiing, night life activities, boat / yacht sailing, etc...

During our three day and two night stay in Boracay, there never was a dull time. We are always on the move. From the moment you arrive and wake up in the morning, there are things to do. For example, we arrived just after lunch and we already tried the boat tour around the island. While the sun is setting, we walk and enjoyed it. After eating dinner, there are also tons of night life activities – the first night we watched the fire dancers. And since the hotel is along the beach coast, once you wake up, you have this certain urged to go for a swim before breakfast.

The verdict between Boracay and Palawan –

Some people may say that going to El Nido is quite expensive compared to Boracay. Yes this is true but one has to consider that with the numerous activities to do in Boracay, this would certainly add up to the expenses.

As mentioned each tourist spot has its own unique offering. People who want to have a fun time - albeit more than a relaxing one may opt to go for Boracay. Be sure to store plenty of energy when visiting Boracay. On the other hand, people who just want to get away from the hassles of city life and just want to have a relaxing time would seemingly be better off to choose El Nido Palawan.

Anyway, the various Palawan and Boracay pictures below might help the reader decide on which to choose between Palawan or Boracay while the links on the right are other useful travelling tips.

      Hi Amanda,

Thanks for dropping by. If you and your partner is looking for water adventures and island hopping during the day and a romantic time at night - most definitely Lagen El Nido (Palawan)

But, for numerous activities (since it's a week duration), Boracay is the place to be.

Hope this helps and have fun :)

      Hi Demvir,

Thanks for reading and agreeing. You made the right choice recommending Palawan for scuba diving. It's one of the best sites to this activity :)

I have been to Boracay many times. I do agree with what you said about Boracay. I have not been to Palawan though. I recommended Palawan for scuba diving for an American friend - I hope I'm doing the right thing...

      Hi Einol,

I'm glad my hub has somewhat inspired you. These two should be on anybody's list of places to visit in the Philippines.

Oh...Honestly, I haven't been to these beautiful places yet. I don't love traveling. But now, I think this article made me want to visit El Nido. I'd love to go there... someday.
