Panama City Panama

Panama City - Panamá is the capital the Republic of Panama and also happens to be the largest city in the country. Although there are now some small flights entering Panama through the airports in David and Bocas del Toro most foreign visitors will arrive in Panama via an international airline landing at Tocumen - Panama's Modern International Airport. This really makes Panama City the gateway to the rest of the country. Panama City has a lot to offer - there are many, many things to do in Panama City so it's worthwhile checking out Panama City Hotels for your stay.

Panama City Hotels

Hotels in Panama City are found in a few different areas of the city but most are concentrated in just a few spots which are popular with visitors. The highest concentration of Panama Hotels is found in the neighbourhood of El Cangrejo.

El Cangrejo Panama

At one time El Cangrejo was the main Jewish neighbourhood in Panama City. A reminder of that time is the Einstein head sculpture and a nearby street named Via de los Combatientes del Gheto de Varsovia which means 'Street of the Combatants of the Gheto of Warsaw'. Now as the central most part of Panama City is it is truly a multi-cultural hub of shopping, restaurants, schools and Panama City Hotels. In the southern most part of this neighbourhood you will find The Executive Hotel, The Bristol Hotel, The Marriott Panama and Tower Suites. A short distance northwest will bring you to Via España, probably the major commercial and retail street in Panama City. Here you will find the majority of Panama City Hotels including: The Crown Plaza, El Panamá, The Ambassador Suites, Hotel Marbella, The Granda Hotel, the Riande Continental, and The Wyndham Grand Vento.

Other areas where you will find Panama City Hotels include: Punta Paitilla; San Felipe/Casco Viejo; Calidonia/Bella Vista; Amador; the Panama Canal Zone & Gamboa Rainforest and of course the Airport.

Paitilla also Punta Paitilla is a Panama City water front neighbourhood which located on a large point of land which juts out into the bay of Panama. Paitilla is one of the most exclusive residential areas in the city. Here the skyline is dominated by condominium towers which offer residents panoramic views of the Pacific Ocean and the Panama City skyline. Visitors and residents alike can stroll the seawall along Balboa Avenue or just enjoy gazing at the Amador Causeway, ships awaiting entrance to the Panama Canal or Casco Viejo at the far end of the bay.

Punta Paitilla is at the end of Avenida Balboa where it joins the toll highway, Corredor Sur. The Paitilla area is always bustling and has everything close by including: the Punta Pacifica Hospital, Panama's most modern medical facility which is affiliated with John Hopkins Hospitals International. There are supermarkets, retail shops, restaurants and specialty stores like the comprehensive kosher supermarket, 'Super Kosher'. The modern Multi-Centro Mall lies at the base of Punta Paitilla. "Multicentro: Central America's largest mall". This is much more than just a shopping mall. In Multicentro you will find: a casino; a 9 screen movie theater; a nightclub; over 30 restaurantes; a wide selection of upscale boutiques and retail shops.

My friend has told me great things about Plaza Paitilla but when he stayed there it was only $45! Looks like it's gone up quite a bit but I guess everything else has too. He also said the Country inn and Suites, pictured at the top, was a real dive!
