Parks of Lahore in Pakistan
In Pakistan the summers are very hot, but at the end of summer when the days are cooling down people start to go out into the parks. Particularly in the evenings, it is possible to see groups of children on a school outing. Also mothers with their children enjoying themselves.
When I was in Lahore I visited several parks in the evening with a friend and her small son. We used to go out around 3 or 4 pm and it used to get dark very quick. Besides going to Bagh-e-Jinnah we went to Racecourse Park and Iqbal Park.
Another speciality of these three parks is that they have animals and birds. Some are roaming in fenced enclosures and the birds are in cages but with plenty of space. In Racecourse Park I saw peacocks, black swans, ducks and geese. In Iqbal Park there were some animals which looked rather like small deer. I didn't find out the name of them. I have put pictures here.
It is really nice to go out to the parks as the nights are drawing in and it is warm, like an English summer evening. The only thing to worry about is that there are mosquitoes around at that time and so I would wear socks as I was bitten sometimes. There is dengue fever in Pakistan which comes from the bite of the mosquito. I always was careful and had something to put on the bites.
Most parks which are not historical parks like the Shalimar Garden seem to have a fairground. This is particularly popular with the groups of schoolchildren. As I was with a lady and her 4 year old son, we of course, went on some of the rides.
As I went around Lahore I saw a lot of good places, but I know that there is also a lot of poverty and misery. I saw a lot of this, like the Monkey Boy in my poem, http://hubpages.com/hub/Monkey-Boy
There is good and bad everywhere, but I want to use my hubs to let people know that Pakistan is a country like any other. The people are warm and hospitable. It is a good place to visit and I will certainly be going again. I know that many are afraid of Pakistan because they only hear the bad things, but in my opinion there is much more good than bad.
