Perfect Camping In Florida

Updated on July 22, 2015

Best Camping Spot

I finally found something that suits everyone for our annual camping trip in June.June is a good time to take the kids because it is not so hot. One week at my house and two weeks camping. The youngest child is 3, and her main concern is, "are we there yet"? So, the trip can not be too far. I did that once never again, this is their trip not mine. If they are happy I'm happy. The second girl is 6 and the easy one of the bunch. I'll take her anywhere. The next girl is 7 and can get cranky if bored. The 8 year old that lives near me and I see more often can get very jealous when they make their yearly trip, but it is getting better. The next is a 16 year old boy that when he wants to can be a big help.

The next big kid is my 69 year old husband who is are motor home driver.I don't know what we would do with out him.

The camping sites are as large as needed for all of us to be quite comfortable. We get the pull through and it is directly across the pool. I like this one because I can put the awning out on the motor home and watch the kids go to the pool. My reclining lawn chairs come in great. I will usually swim with the kids before I get to my reclining lawn chair. I usually stop at the library and bring some of my books. It is one of the rare times I get caught up on reading, The site comes with a campfire ring so that's where the cooking is done. The kids like cooking out and no mess in the motor home.

Last time I camped here they had a hayride at night for the campers it is a lot of fun and the kids really enjoy it. They did this in Oct. for Halloween. They have a bluegrass show in October. It is the perfect time not cold and the temperature is not too hot.I love it during the fall its is very beautiful in Florida.

Update on 6-20-1015, we made our trip back to the park once again. I had 2 more granddaughters and one more grandson. We had a wonderful get together and my daughter- in- law, and wonderful daughter got to go this year along with my son. The camp had vendors with arts and crafts and different good food.See them again next year.

What Does The Otter Spring Offer?

Lots of different things can be done at this park if you are going to camp here. There are some very nice hiking trails in the park. One of the trails lead to the springs and the Suwannee river. I love to hike and see and find new things.

The girls love the big indoor pool and this takes care of my husband and the three little girls they love swimming and I do not have to worry about them getting sunburn because the pool is covered. There are tables and chairs and lounge chairs for my husband to relax and read and swim and keep an eye on the girls. No one complains, and after we cook out side the girls are ready for bed. My 16 year old grandson went fishing most of the day. I went on my hike to the springs, and saw how lovely they are up close. The boy likes to go swimming at the springs it is what he thinks is the best place to swim. I watch it is a little too cold for me even in June and July. The springs stay a constant temperature of 73 degrees, too cold for me. Otter Springs is a natural spring.

The springs are located in Gilchrist county which is in north Florida. The county has only two towns that make it up. The towns are Trenton and Bell. The town of Trenton is know all over Florida for its annual quilt show. The places is packed with quilts and people. The two towns are about 9 miles apart.

If you should visit the springs it is worth the trip to Bell. Bell is a small charming town that people come long distance just for the food. There is one restaurant in town with the best food and it is always packed. They have added in three more dining areas since I moved here. People come from long distance for the food, in Akins restaurant.

My Grandson likes to take canoe trips with my husband. The Suwannee River is only 1 mile away. The Suwannee River has great fishing and large catfish. The sturgeon are huge and can knock you out of your boat during the spring and I believe the main jumping is in the spring. I have gotten soaked in the boat getting splashed by one.The biggest one I have seen was about 300 lbs.

On our last day of the trip on the way home we stop at Akins for lunch and have some of the best seafood, clams, shrimp, scallops and grouper. The lunch is cooked perfect.

Indoor Swimming Pool

The pool is great and I like the girls using the pool as I can keep track of them much easier. The pool is open to 11:00 every night. The girls have to be dragged out of the pool. The pool is kept very clean and is well maintained at all times.

    Stella,

I was amazed to see the beauty of rural Florida. So many of us get allured by gaudy touristy spots though.

We were in and around Orlando in January and found the weather to be great - pleasantly cool in the mornings and evenings, pleasantly warm during the day time. We wanted to show our children WDW parks, but also took lot of time out to visit less touristy lakes to observe Florida wildlife. It was a great trip and the lesson in your article brought back those sweet memories.

Awesome article! Thanks for sharing about Real Florida.

Glad to see this location in Florida highlighted to give people a chance to get to know what the state's natural areas hold for a a true vacation. How lovely that you can enjoy it with your grandchildren s opposed to running around in crowds at a theme park!

Interesting article, it's always nice to find a perfect spot for camping, it sure took you a while to find one, now you have found it and spread the word through your writing, there will be many more searchers of that right spot checking it out. Next time you go there maybe there will be no room for you to camp. Just a thought. Happy days camping.

Enjoyable hub about your special place, and the video was both informative and exhibited personal happiness. Reading your hub made me want to visit - though I would also visit where I lived as a teen in Holmes County - and Ponce de Leon Springs state recreation area. Thank you for sharing such a relaxing writing.

May and October are my favorite Florida months; been a few years since I have been back but use to come every summer I could. Sounds like a big adventure and great time with the kids. Voted up.
