Jaynie is from Madison, WI but has traveled extensively. Her family speaks 4 languages, making the world very accessible.

Phuket is one of Thailand's most popular tourist destinations. It is located in the southern region, nestled between the Andaman Sea and the Sea of Thailand. It's white sand beaches and brilliant sunsets are world-renowned. Thailand has only two seasons, the green season and hot season. During the hot season, tourists and locals alike can enjoy a plethora of water sports such as swimming, snorkeling, SCUBA diving, jet skiing, sailing and more.

There are many tour companies along the coast, but Jc. Tours and Seacamp Tours offer a host of activities that include elephant rides, parasailing, cave exploration and sea kayaking, to name a few. SCUBA lessons are available for the novice. One of the best choices for SCUBA is the Sea World SCUBA Team. This company offers SCUBA lessons and tours in over a dozen languages by employing tour guides from around the globe, leading tours in their native tongues. If you would rather view colorful marine life from a dryer vantage point, consider visiting the Phuket Aquarium. This small, but charming venue boasts a clear tube through which visitors walk while surrounded by marine life. There are also hundreds of colorful species to enjoy.

If you enjoy sightseeing, you won't want to miss the traditional Thai Buddhist temples. They are architecturally stunning and offer a peaceful place to get away from the bustle of the beach and enjoy relaxation and meditation. Be sure to visit Wat Chalong and Wat Phra Thong, which are two of the most famous temples in Phuket.

There are many restaurants to choose from in Phuket, many offering tasty traditional Thai cuisine. If it is romance and ambience you are interested in, don't miss the White Box Restaurant, a favorite of both tourists and locals. Diners will enjoy a peaceful atmosphere, listening to the waves and basking in the warm glow of a perfect sunset as they sip wine and savor exotic dishes. Views are spectacular whether you dine on the veranda or indoors behind expansive windows. The restaurant is awash in white linens which complement the white sand beach and give the facility a high class, elegant feel.

If you haven't been to Phuket, consider adding it to your list of must-see travel destinations. You will find a host of activities that are unlike any you will find in most other places, making this a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.

      It is an amazing place to visit, and to live in. There are more than 20 beaches to enjoy and some of them are deserted.

      Fabulous Hub, great information and stunning pictures. My Dad used to visit Thailand regularly and always said how wonderful it is. You have further convinced me that he is right and that I should visit some day.

      Well, that's the way I pronounced it before I knew better. It is actually pronounced "poo-ket." Perhaps laid-back, pleasure-seeking Americans would pronounce it your way. (-;

      Is 'Phuket' pronounced the way I really hope it is?
