Coming to Nashville- Check out these Must See Places
All year long there are lots of fun things to do in Nashville. Being the capitol of Country Music means that most activities are tied around country music but there are other fun things to do that are just not made around country music. You will find many things to do with the whole family if that is what you are looking for. If you are just searching for something that you and your friends can do given the appropriate age then you will find many places to visit also. During certain times of the year you will find lots of free things to do in the area also. In this day and economy everyone wants to save a dollar whenever the chance arises. I am always looking to do something fun and free in this city.
Gaylord Opryland hotel
Free Things To Do:
These are the many free things to do in the city. You wont spend a dime to go to these locations but you may end up buying something inside the venue. I am just advertising that these are free to enter.
Gaylord Opryland Hotel: Free Admittance:
Large Hotel in place of where the old amusement park was located. They demolished the amusement park and created the hotel and mall. Inside the hotel you will find a large town type setting. Buildings inside and a river where you can take a small river boat ride to learn about the hotel. The river boat ride is not free and is just a few dollars. You will find many different sections of the hotel that you can walk around. All summer long on friday nights you can catch a movie poolside at the hotel and this is free of charge. Come enjoy a nice relaxing evening at the pool and bring the kids to enjoy the water.
Opry In the Plaza: This is located in front of the Grand Ole Opry House. Here you can enjoy a free concert on Saturday nights during the summer months. Usually starts in May and continues through till August. A new and upcoming artist will perform in front of the opryhouse and this is free to come to. All you need to bring is your lawnchair and camera to catch a show. Plan on coming early to make sure you get a good seat and plan on showing up early so you don't have to park to far away. You will find refreshments on the scene if you want something to eat and drink while the show is on.
Country Music Museum: Located in the Grand Ole Opry House plaza. This is a free to enter venue and inside you will find many different types of memorabilia from all the stars. This is a nice little walk thru museum and I think you will like all the different types of things that got donated to this venue. I didn't know this was even here until someone told me about this place. I like it and at least once during the summer we go and walk around.
Opry Mills Mall: This is a nice mall. It is one of the larger malls in the city. This mall is in the same area as the Gaylord Opryland Hotel and Across from the Grand Ole Opry House. You will find many stores that are all nicely priced because this is an outlet mall rather than a typical mall. I find many of the stores to be reasonably priced. Many different styles of restaurants also.
Cooters: A Museum that has all sorts of memorabilia from The Dukes Of Hazard. In this venue it is free to enter and free to park. It is just a small little venue, It has lots of things from the original show and lots of collector items that you can purchase also. This is a nice little store to go to when trying to kill time.
Venues that Charge:
There are plenty of other things to do while in town. You will have lots of places to visit and to keep you occupied while you are in town. Some of these venues can be a little pricey and some will be blocked out because of unavailable tickets for the date you are in town.
Grand Ole Opry: Tickets start at around thirty dollars and can range in a variety of prices depending on where in the venue you will want to sit. The seats in this venue are the church like pews from your local church. Seating is comfortable and you will always have a good show. Shows are on Tuesdays and are on Saturdays. 2 shows are on Saturday.
Nashville Shores: This is a water park that is located on the outside of Nashville. It is still in the city but is located on the east side of the city headed out of town. This is a little pricey and as I have not been to this venue I can not tell you for sure about how many rides there are and how much fun you will or will not have. I think the best option for you is to check out the website to see what you think of it. you can just google it if you so wish.
Nashville's Wave Country: This is just a small little wave pool that is packed all summer long with people. All inflatables are free of charge to use. With this venue there are a few water slides available also. You will find a lot of picnic tables but will need to get there early on to make sure that you will have access to one as the summer months go by more and more people are renting the pavillions to have parties. Is a nice little park to at least cool off at.
Ryman Auditorium: This is where the home to the rand Ole Opry is during the winter months. During the winter if you are visiting the shows at the Grand Ole Opry house are The Rockette's and this is another great show to be able to see if you have a chance. During the summer you can actually tour the Ryman and stand in the middle of the stage just like the stars did and continue to do so. Be sure to check it out if you have a chance.
The Mall of Green Hills: This is a nice little mall that I have only been to once but it is where a lot of the country music singers spend their hard earned money. On occasion you will be able to see some of them while shopping. Some of them will allow you to get an autograph and some will even allow you to take a picture with them but some of them will not. Don't take it as a personal insult but rather they just don't want to be bothered while trying to shop.
Nashville Zoo: This is a cute little zoo to take the family too while in town. I can tell you that I have been to this zoo and there is plenty of places to see while visiting the zoo. There are a lot of different species at the zoo and depending on the weather will depend on how many animals you will see. If it is cold and rainny some animals will be inside and unavailable for viewing. This is a pretty good walk so be sure to wear some walking shoes. And have lots of sunscreen available also. Wouldn't want to get a burn while doing something fun.
The Wildhorse Saloon: This is a nice venue that during the day the whole family can enjoy. During certain times of the day you will be able to catch a line dancing class and the whole family can enjoy for no charge. I put this under the charge venue list because there is not a lot to see but rather a good dining choice for the whole family. This venue is of course smoke free. I love to eat here while we are up town during our CMA Festival days.
The Hard Rock Cafe: During the summer you can enjoy a meal out on the patio and watch as all the tourists walk around downtown Nashville. During the CMA Music Festival you can catch a free concert from some of the upcoming artists in the country music business. This is a nice place to sit down and enjoy a meal also. I have not personally been here but I hear the food is to die for.
So all these places are fun things to do while intown for any type of vacation. I hope you will enjoy your stay.
