Kodaikanal is a popular hill station situated in Southern India. Kodaikanal is known for its beautiful lake, waterfalls and numerous mountain views of the plains. The best time to visit this place is from april to june and september to october. Several summer festival programmes is conducted here in the month of may such as flower show, dog show and boat show. You can rent cycles, row boats and pedal boats for a short period of time. Kodaikanal lake also called as kodai lake is one of the best places to see in Kodaikanal. It is located in the Dindigul district in Tamil nadu, India. It is just 3 km from the bus stand. Kodai lake covers almost an area of 60 acres with full of greenery and looks like a star. You can find various activities such as boating, fishing, cycling and horse riding. Also there is a boat club offers pedaling and rowing boats at a resonable price. You can enjoy a horse ride in the shores of the lake. For kids and children, they have pony rides, walking and cycling. Watching the sunset is a wonderful experience for tourists.
Fishing and swimming is permitted to the members of the Kodaikanal boat club. You can see the kurunji flower here. It is a unique flowering plant which blooms once in 12 years. Flower show and pageant show is held during the summer festival. Flower show is conducted in may and you can find gorgeous flowers in the show. Several hotels you can find around the lake. Carlton hotel have their own boats for guests. Various small shops and restaurants is located within the walking distance. You can get cheeses and homemade chocolates from small shops.
2. Coakers walk:
It is just 1 kilometer away from the kodai lake. It offers some of the beautiful views of the plains valleys. They have a small observatory with telescope at the southern end of the coakers walk. It provides the panoromic view of the valleys and its surroundings. On a clear day, you can find some of the fascinating sights such as valley of the Pambar river in South East, birds eye view of Periyakulam, Dolphin's nose in south and Theni. Common lounge area is also there to sit and relax. Coakers walk is open throughout the year and must see attraction for tourists. Visiting time is 7am to 7pm.
3. Berijam lake
The lake is located inside the forest area and just 20 kms from Kodaikanal. It is great for nature lovers and tourists. Water in the Berijam lake is known for its purity and also provides drinking water in the surrounding area. You can find fantastic pine forests around the lake. The lake is protected by forest laws. You need to get permission from the forest officer to go there. Since the lake is inside the forest area, it is home to wild animals such as leopard, elephants, deer and bison. It is best to walk in groups. Various birds you can find here such as pariah kites, serpent eagles, leaf warblers, rosefinch and pale rumped swallows. Berijam is rich in flora and fauna. Psilocybin mushrooms and poisonous mushrooms also grow around Berijam.
Several activities you can find around the lake including baoting, trekking and walking. Walking around the gigantic trees is a amazing experience for visitors. It is perfect for trekking. The Munnar trek takes about 40 kms from Berijam and Kavunji is about 9 kms.
4. Kurunji Andavar Temple:
The temple is located 3 km from the lake. It is dedicated to god Muruga. Lord Muruga is also called as Sri Kurinji Easware. In tamil, Kurinji means hill region and Andavar means god. From the temple, we can get majestic views of Palani and Vaigai dam. It is associated with kurinji flowers. Hundreds of devotees visit this Muruga temple during the summer festival.
5. Pillar rocks:
It is located 8kms from the kodai lake. It is made up of three massive granite boulders and measuring upto a height of 400 meters. The rock is surrounded by lush green forests and covered with cold mist. Thisattracts many visitors. The chambers between the two pillars called as devil's kitchen. This place is great for picnics. The panoromic view, caves and thick woods attracts many people for vacation. During the season time, you can find binoculars and small telescopes for rent.

Bryant park is another must - do things in Kodaikanal. It is a botanical park spread over 20 acres. It is located on the eastern side of the entrance. It has different varities of flowers, rafts and hydrids. About 325 varieties of trees, cacti and shrubs in the park. The annual vegetable and flower show is held in the month of may. Also there is a glass house in the park which contains various flowers, shrubs, fems and ornamental plants. A musical fountain and children's park is also there in this park. It is another added reasons for guests to visit this park. It serves as center for education on ornamental horticulture. They teach various methods of pruning, grafting, budding and potting seed collection for tourists and students.
7. Green valley view:
Green valley view is also known as suicide point is near the Kodaikanal golf club. It provides the panoromic view of the plain valleys, vaigai dam and the hills. It has a depth of more than 5000 feet and gives the good view of the city from this point. Plenty of monkeys will be seen in this area is another added attraction for the children and the adults. The best time to get there is after 10am to 3pm, because the mist will cover up the plain valleys in the evenings and early mornings. The pathway to the valley is loaded with tons of small shops. You can get some good home made chocolates, flowers, clothes, spices and ornaments.
8. Pine forest:
It is one of the best picnic spots in Kodaikanal and you can enjoy the beautiful pine trees. This place is great for nature lovers, photographers and new married couples. It is about 10km from the town. The scenery at forest is one of the amazing locations to spend some time there.
9. Silver cascade:
It is just 8 kilometers away from Kodaikanal. It is 180 feet high and the crystal clear water contains various minerals. Eucalyptus garden is located near the falls. Taking a bath between the falls and the eucalyptus tree is another attraction for tourists. Plenty of monkeys you can see in this area.
10. Organic farmers market: Farmers market is open on every saturday from 9 am to 1 pm. You can get some fresh veggies and fruits here. Organic produce means it is grown without pesticides and artificial fertilizers. The best part is you can pick some veggies and fruits from the farm.
