Public Bathrooms in Southern California
Area looking away from the restrooms at Balboa Pier
Bathrooms, where to go?
Well there is no hiding the fact that there are times when one needs to just use a restroom when you are out and about. The only thing worse than needing to use a restroom away from home, is not being able to find one! We have all been in this situation at one time or another and it is unpleasant. Here are a few restrooms you can go to next time you are in Southern California. Do share some more if you have any to recommend, you may just help someone else out!
Balboa Beach Pier and Restrooms
Balboa Beach Pier, Beach and Restrooms
Balboa Beach, as well as Balboa Island are both wonderful places to visit, and even spend a whole day. While sunning and shopping, maybe even fishing there will likely be a time you are looking for a restroom! Luckily, right at the end of the pier, you can find a public restroom, that has a lot of privacy and there is a showering area that you can rinse off sand if you need to as well. There is a water fountain there too, which is great on any day when you may not be thinking about getting enough to drink.
While these restrooms are not perfect, they definitely serve their purpose and in a great location for all people to use as needed. I love the little restaurant Ruby's at the end of the pier, but even they do not have a restroom there. It is all located where the pier and the beach come together. You can see a flag pole nearby, palm trees, and a big grassy area where people love to fly kites and throw frisbies or have a picnic.

Huntington Beach, along the California Coast
Huntington Beach, Southern California
When up the coastline a bit from Balboa, you eventually will get to Huntington Beach when going north. Where we like to go is the Huntington Beach State Park area, and they luckily have restrooms there as well. They are individually locked little "rooms" for stalls, and so the privacy factor is great there. They also have outside showers, where people can rinse off the sand and salt water (with bathing suits on of course!) and then go back to the beach or just go home.
The bathrooms are always stocked with plenty of toilet paper, and they have an area to wash your hands of course. We have been there both during the days, and on into the evenings as well. At night, the area is lit up, and I know that we are always thankful for the facilities there. Thanks Huntington Beach for providing clean places for people to use the restroom and get cleaned up.

Nordstrom's, one my favorite stores at the mall.
Nordstrom's first came to mind when the topic of restrooms and bathrooms came up because they have probably the nicest or next to the nicest bathrooms around. There are many Nordstrom's now across the country, not just in California anymore. I have been to one in Missouri, at the West County Mall as well, and their restroom is just lovely!
Nordstrom's has both men's and women's restrooms, but they also have the family restroom option for mothers or fathers with small children. It's the perfect restroom for taking in a stroller, or to take a few siblings together so that you aren't separated when out and about.
They often have an area to just sit, and rest. Often very comfortable couches and chairs, all in a beautifully decorated room. The lighting and fragrance in these restrooms is even given a lot of attention! They will have air fresheners, that are beautiful reed diffusers, spilling a lovely fragrance about the place. You will find pretty art, to beautiful bouquets of flowers as well. Its like a little sanctuary away from the craziness of the mall!
There are many Nordstroms, they will likely all be similar to what I describe here. Free restrooms that make you almost want to stay awhile! Imagine that.
