Disney's Wilderness Lodge Resort

Disney's Wilderness Lodge Resort

Enjoy the scenic Pacific Northwest, but do it in Orlando, Florida. The Imagineers at Walt Disney World created an enchanting resort designed to take visitors to the Pacific Northwest. This resort was inspired by the turn-of-the-century frontier of the American Northwest. The Wilderness Lodge Resort is a 5 star resort with a rustic feel. When visitors step into the foyer to check-in they are greeted by an 82 foot high fireplace, based on the Grand Canyon Style. A visitors mouth may be agape in wonder as they try to take in all that Disney has created in this resort. Looking around the foyer one will notice two 55 foot high hand carved totem poles, rough-hewn logs, quarried stone and Native American artifacts. One will not be able to disregard the creek that runs through the resort, giving it a rugged feel. Enjoy the sound of the running water as you rest in one of the comfortable chairs or rocking chairs that are provided. Sit by the fireplace and soak in the ambience of this rustic, but utterly comfortable resort.

This interesting and unique resort has three western themed restaurants to choose from. For fine dining one could choose Artists Point. This restaurant has a dress code, check when you make reservations. They serve Pacific Northwest Fare that is delicious. For something a little less formal try the Whispering Canyon Cafe, here they serve everything from breakfast to dinner. One can enjoy a burger, fish or a steak. But, if you are in a hurry to get into the parks try the Roaring Fork this is a quick service restaurant that provides breakfast, lunch, and dinner. The food here is good, I would not rate it as excellent as I would the other two restaurants in this resort.

The rooms at this resort are of average size, they are about 340 square ft. Depending on the room you choose there may be a queen size bed, two doubles or a double and a bunk bed. One can request a cot or a pack -n- play for the little ones. The rooms are decorated in Old West Motif in woodland colors. The views vary from room to room, some have a waterfall view, or a “geyser” view, baylake view or a view of the woods.Any of the views are beautiful.

Outside the resort one will find waterfalls, babbling brooks, “geysers”, color pools and a volcanic meadow. Everything here is so relaxing and realistic one may feel they are not in Florida at all. On certain nights Disney has an electric light parade on the man made lake beside the resort.

The amenities are many. They have two outdoor pools, the Silver Creek Springs Pool and the Hidden Springs Pool along with a spa. Not all of the Disney resorts have spas. There is a beautiful creek that runs through the property that is situated on the man made lake with An inviting walking path that leads down to the beach.

Disney is famous for so many things, but their attention to detail is remarkable! The only thing that I was a little disappointed with was the size of the rooms. I thought for the price the rooms should be a bit larger. However, one can rent the penthouse suite which is a nice size, but when I go to Disney World I do not generally spend a lot of time in my room so in the end it didn’t matter. To me a room is for sleeping in, and Disney provides a good quantity of things to do outside not including the parks.

My family and I have spent several vacations right here in the Disney's Wilderness Lodge Resort and every time we find something new, something we didn't see the last time, and something new to experience. We find the concierge to be helpful and friendly be sure to check with them for any questions you may have. Do you have a restaurant in mind? You may need to make reservations, the concierge can direct you on how to proceed with the reservations.

Is this resort worth it? Well, that is an individual choice. I have a friend who simply refuses to pay for a 5 star resort. I really think she is mising out.
