Our Experience

We had heard about the Portland Aquarium through a few friends. What we didn't take into account was that they had younger children. Ours are almost 11 and 15.

I think for the small space provided they are doing a fabulous job of displaying the sealife in both large tanks and habitats. The ability to get hands on with several of the sea creatures was a plus.

the highlight of the visit for us was the feeding and petting of the Rays and Sharks. I think they could improve the exhibit by only allowing a set number of people in at a time so each person had a better chance to get up close. It would also be nice to have some guided instruction on feeding and petting them from a staff member with each group since most of us started trying to pet the animals with no idea of the best way to do so.

I would highly recommend this for families with small children since there is so much to see and do for them. Older children would do great guiding and helping younger ones through the experience for a fun day.
