March 1st…T minus 10 days. This is my life right now. I will not be dying, but I might be being born again. I will be living in Braaschaat, Belgium, and working in Breda, Netherlands for six months. I have lived in the Midwest, U.S.A. my whole life. After I actually earn 4,000-miles on my United Airlines mileage flight card, I will be living in somebody else’s bird’s nest. My world here will hibernate. Like the movie Avatar…suspended in one world while you are in another. I am a novice traveler, so I expect a culture shock, but that’s very captain obvious. I have been reading a How to Survive Belgium book, which gives me a clue on what to expect there. You can only expect things in vague terms when it’s new to you. That’s the surprise of life though, nobody wants to be spoon-fed every little thing. Exception: babies. But, this book lets me get a lick of the spoon, and that is good enough. The reality of it is that you have to sweat the details to even form your own expectations. That is called the brute-force method, the part I am looking forward to. I can’t wait. I hope to create not just a paradigm shift, but perhaps even an entirely new paradigm. Even for you guys’ that are going to follow me on my trek via this blog!
