San Diego Review: Travelodge Mission Valley, Hotel Circle South
An Older Motel That's A Terrific Value
Recently, I traveled to San Diego, to address a family emergency. Being an unplanned trip, I was on a limited budget, and needed an economical place to stay.
I am obsessive (almost) about reading reviews, and many of the Travelodge reviews were not stellar (which is an understatement). One thing that impressed me, however, was that the management made the time and effort to respond to many of those reviews. That was evidence, that there was someone running the place, that actually cared.
In responding to the reviews, the manager had mentioned that the motel was in the process of an update renovation. True to the responses, on my visit in mid-January of 2013, I found that my room had new paint and new carpet.
The room was exceptionally clean; and, because it was an older building, the room actually was much more spacious than many higher-priced options that I've frequented. The furnishings were dated, but, during my four day stay, the motel staff was busy replacing the upholstered chairs in the rooms (including mine) with new ones.
My room was located in the back building, and so traffic noise was not an issue. During my stay, I had the occasion to interact with front desk staff, with housekeeping, and with maintenance. I found all staff to be pleasant and helpful.
The motel is located adjacent to a major roadway (I-8), so the location is very convenient. My only location complaint, was that there was no convenience food within walking distance (although there were two restaurants on site, which I did not visit). It would be a great convenience, for this motel to add a mini-fridge and perhaps a microwave to each room -- and, with the room size these, presumably, would be easy additions. (A response by the management to my TripAdvisor review, informed me that these amenities are available in some, but not all, of the rooms now.)
The free high-speed internet worked well, and the TV channel options were very good.
And, at less than $50 per night (with my AARP discount), this motel was an excellent value - and a great find. I will definitely stay there again - if I need future lodging in the San Diego area.
