The Savannah Bee Company - The Perfect Place for Honey Lovers of All Ages.

Updated on March 12, 2011

A Brief History About The Savannah Bee Company by Founder, Ted Dennard.

One of the books this quaint shop offers their customers. It has become my daughters favorite.

Some of the Great Products The Savannah Bee Company Offers.

I'm constantly on the look out for fun and educational places to excite and inspire my children.

Anyone who lives in, around, or who has had the privilege of visiting the beautiful city of Savannah, Georgia, will tell you that this historical city is chock full of charming and fascinating places the entire family can enjoy.

The Savannah Bee Company® just so happens to be one of those places.

As my husband and two small children strolled the downtown area of Savannah, Georgia , one evening we decided to see what this quaint store was all about.

The exterior of this charming business is a welcome in of itself.

With its warm and inviting window displays and wooden screen doors - reminiscent of the the old fashioned screen doors you'd find on many older homes in South Georgia - it's not hard to see why anyone cannot simply pass by without taking a peek in what's inside.

* What to Expect.

Step inside this quaint store and you are immediately greeted by a warm hello and the rich smell of raw, sweet, honey.

To our delight, a very friendly sales associate invited us to taste test the raw (which simply means it has not been heated or treated like many of the honeys you'd find on your supermarket shelves) honeys they had on display. There were five in all and included:

  1. Tupelo
  2. Orange Blossom
  3. Acadia
  4. Black Sage
  5. Sourwood

If you have never been fortunate enough to taste raw honey, then you are in for a real treat. Each variety touted its own distinct taste.

One taste of these rare, sweet, and distinctive honeys will make you feel as if you have tasted real honey for the very first time in your life.

In addition to its unique honeys, the Savannah Bee Company® provides the honey lover with a wide variety of wonderful honey inspired and bees-waxed based products that include but are not limited to:

  1. Bee pollen- many have touted its amazing nutritional benefits (always consult your physician before purchasing and consuming bee pollen since some may have an adverse reaction to it).
  2. Body Butter - infused with raw honey; this honey based product is great for achieving smooth and silky skin.
  3. Honey flavored coffee beans - a unique way to enjoy a fresh cup of coffee. It's coffee with a unique appeal.
  4. Honey Straws - clear straws filled with sweet, raw honey. A fun way for kids and adults to enjoy a healthy treat.
  5. Beeswax Candles - made from 100% beeswax, these healthier alternatives to their paraffin wax counterparts are said to be nature's perfect air purifiers. They burn clean and slow (one 1.5" × 2" votive burns for 15 hours) and are renewable - which is perfect if you are "going green". Beeswax candles are said to emit negative ions when burning which helps rid the air of allergens such as dust and dust mites. In addition, they are great for naturally removing your home or office of stubborn offensive odors.
  6. Bath Soaps - these honey based bath soaps smell lovely and will not strip your skin of its natural oils.
  7. Honeycombs - sold in small squares, honeycombs are an edible treat for the brave. The sales associate assured us that it's just like eating very sweet wax. Keep in mind the wax lips many of us ate as children. Eating a honeycomb is very similar except the texture is a tad bit harder (believe me, it's definitely something you have to try at least once!)
  8. Miscellaneous - items such as books, t-shirts, lip balms, lotions, honey dippers, honey drizzlers and more are also sold for the honey connoisseur.

A walk to the rear of the store offers shoppers a glimpse of unique and awesome art pieces readily displayed for all to see, as well as a sitting area with a viewing screen detailing the life of the honeybee.

* A Fun Place for the Kids.

The Savannah Bee Company® is not simply for adults.

Depending on the location; a huge bee skep replica sits strategically in the middle of the shop and is decked out inside with soft chairs, books, puzzles, and a large, flat screen television that constantly runs educational videos about honeybees and the honey they make.

A large window at the side provides parents with a great way to keep an eye on their little ones as they play.

Step inside this bee skep and you instantly feel as if you are wrapped in a large cocoon of sorts. It's a great place for small ones to keep entertained as their parents shop.

Don't forgot to remove your shoes!

I looooove and respect creative people. This is just so great and inspiring. I'm doing a lot of freelance writing but I know I am never going to be totally happy until I am doing my own thing - like my own blog or screenplay or such.

But I am so inspired on this night filled with snow in NYC - thanks a million Veronica Allen - I value your opinion.

What a clever idea - I love enterprising people! This is so interesting and I would love some Tupelo honey, and beeswax candles. And yes, what an educational experience for children so they can learn to respect bees and understand how we need them, and not fear them - a welcoming shop for them.

Great hub Veronica Allen. I would certainly stop in when I am down that way
