Updated on August 1, 2014

Sringeri is a place where goddess of knowledge can be seen. Sringeri is famous for Sri Sharada temple and Sri Vidyashankara temple. The name Sringeri is derived from Sringagiri, a mountain near Sringeri. This place is located in Chickmagalore District in the state of Karnataka, India. This place is situated in the banks of river Tunga.

When Sri Shankaracharya came to Sringeri, He saw something unusual, a snake giving shadow to a frog. Impressed with the place where natural enemies had gone beyond their instincts, he selected the site as the place to stay and teach his disciples. Later he decided to build a temple here and that temple is now called as Sharada temple. This is one of the best holy place in India and it is very famous in South India.
