secrets about sLOVEnia
SUNNY SIDE of The ALPS (Europe)
Why I decided to write this lens about Slovenia?...Not just only and alone to inform you about one of the most beautiful countries in Central Europe (the most Northern Country of Former Yugoslavia), but most of all because Slovenia is deep in my heart. Born, living and working in Belgium, I feel Belgian, I feel Flemish, but with Slovenian blood in my vains. My parents emigrated to Belgium (province of Limburg, near the border with the Netherlands, not far from Maastricht) in the early 1950's, because my father found a job in the coal mines. After he died in an accident (1963), my mother decided to stay in Belgium, because of the wishes of my brother and me.
I'm so grateful to my mother for that decision, for 2 reasons:
1/ I got the opportunity to finish my education, to obtain my master's degree in psychology and family sociology, in the Flemish language, I was familiar with, so I could build my life, my family, my professional career in Belgium...where I'm fully integrated;
2/ My mother also gave me the love for Slovenian culture, language...so I kept feeling sLOVEnian :)
I'm so grateful, thanks to my beloved mother, for the fact, I have TWO motherlands.
A big part of my life was also dedicated to Slovenian culture: songs, music, gastronomy, politics, cultural life, language...
But also almost whole my life I was collaborating in local Slovenian Associations.
You can imagine my happiness, when Slovenia declared her independance from Yugoslavia in 1991, to FEEL the new freedom of Slovenian people, IN Slovenia, but also abroad. On this moment, as Belgian-Flemish citizen, I'm proud of the European membership of my second homeland.
Just take the opportunity in my following modules to learn about Slovenia, on the Sunny Side of the Alps.
Birth of my PASSION to TRAVEL
I certainly believe, my deep passion for travelling was born during my childhood, when we started to travel to Slovenia (period of Former Rep. of Yugoslavia), to visit our relatives. As little family, without relatives in Belgium, my mother has the deep desire to visit them as much as possible. So my passion to travel was born. After Slovenia, I started to discover capitals in Europe... More about this I will unveal in other lenses. Also my feelings for culture, art, music, languages... is connected to Slovenian way of life.
This I will develop in future new lenses.

My TRAVEL Passion
A life history
For sure, my passion for travelling was born during my childhood, when our little family in Belgium started visiting relatives in Belgium. Living, working in Belgium, I experienced this country as my first home country.
Living as Slovenians in Belgium, we integrated totally, BUT we didn't want to be "assimilated". We kept our love and respect for the roots, loving the Slovenian language, habits and living style, songs, music, art, culture, and most of all, the exceptional beautiful nature of the Alp landscapes. So Slovenia became my second home country.
Since I started to travel more the last 12 years, during discovering capitals in Europe, with this passion I discovered also Spain, as my third home country. It means, I feel home and comfortable in 3 European countries, whenever I am in those countries. So I may call myself a lucky guy.
