South Australia's Kangaroo Island
One of South Australia's most visited attractions. Popular among the Australian residents and tourists from all over. Kangaroo Island is one of a kind with a big beautiful landscape and a wide variety of animals. The island got its name when the founder Captain Matthew Flinders landed on an island with nothing but kangaroos. Discovered in 1802, the settlers used the island for trade and hunting along with the French. Today, Kangaroo Island has become popular tourist designation and with wildlife parks.
Where is the Island Located
Located off the coast of South Australia, Kangaroo Island is Australia's third largest island. One must take a ferry to Penneshaw, a small town on the island. Another option is to fly to the island, however, the ferry is much more convenient for those who want to budget. Surrounded by beautiful beaches and big rock formations.
The Wildlife
Let's not forget about the wide variety of animals, the island has to offer. Home to the Australian Sea Lion. Those animals are the some of the cutest things I have ever seen, I even bought a stuffed sea lion toy for me as a souvenir. Kangaroo Island is home to a conversation where many endangered animals are cared for. Other animals like the Tammar Wallaby, New Zealand Fur Seal, and many more reside on the island.
All of the wildlife on Kangaroo Island is protected and even though there is hunting on the island. The islanders make sure that these animals never become extinct. But all in all, the animals on the island make it worth while.
Oh! The Fun Things You Can Do
Kangaroo Island is filled with fun activities for anyone to enjoy. Not only is the wildlife something that attracts many people worldwide, but other outdoor activities like hiking and camping. Flinders Chase National Park has the beautiful rock formations that can be climbed.
Other activities like four wheeling and sand boarding are something to consider when planning a trip to the island. Even the beaches are lovely but the waters can be cold and dangerous. The wine is also well known throughout the region. Even check out the local towns, the people are friendly and there are many things to do.
Conclusion
When I went to Kangaroo Island, I enjoyed my stay and my tour guide knew his stuff. I remember seeing the Milky Way and stars in the pure black sky. The wildlife was some of the most unique and diverse I have ever seen. The environment itself is so beautiful to the eyes can see. I think the trip was so worth it. Just remember to bring a jacket because it can get really cold during the winter time.
