10 Of The Best Beaches In The World

Updated on August 27, 2013

If you were playing word association, and you were asked about the word 'summer' there is a good chance that the word 'beach' would come to mind. With the sunshine and hot temperatures fast approaching, many people will be planning their vacations and preparing to head to the beach for some sand and the sea. There are a lot of beaches out there, and everybody has their favorites, but some beaches have such a reputation that everybody wants to visit them. For those of you who really want to do it big this summer, here are ten of the best beaches in the world. The only negative thing about these beaches is that everybody wants to be at them!

Whitehaven Beach: Australia.

Sitting on the beautiful Whitsunday Island in Australia, this is a remarkable beach with some of the whitest sands on earth. As you can see, the water is beautiful and clear and the sand and surrounding greenery are equally beautiful. The beach is also extremely clean, but perhaps it's most amazing feature is that due to the rare form of sand that makes up the glorious shoreline, it does not absorb heat. Therefore, it is remarkably comfortable to walk or lay on, making this beach a flawless spot for pure relaxation or enjoyment.

The Baths at Virgin Gorda: British Virgin Islands

One of the most unique beaches in the world, aptly named 'The Baths,' this beach has clear volcanic routes which make it one of the most visually interesting and adventurous experiences one can have at the shore. There are thousands of boulders left over from these volcanic origins and these form a variety of natural, organic structures such as pools, tunnels and caves which pepper the beach, making every inch different from the next. A great place for kids to adventure, a photographers heaven and a spot where so many activities are available, this is great beach for those who love to get involved!

Rabbit Beach: Sicily, Italy

Tucked away on the Sicilian Island of Lampedusa, 'Rabbit Beach' has been voted as the world's best beach numerous times, and for obvious reasons. The water is the wonderful turquoise color, that is a staple of most amazing beaches, and the water is so clear it looks like a sheet of blue glass. The cliffs that surround the beach are rugged and bright, which contrasts with the blue water. What is unique is that the landscape around is actually harsh looking, which makes the beach itself look all the more beautiful. Plus, there are turtles all over the place!

Flamenco Beach: Puerto Rico

Considered to be one of the most beautiful all around beaches in the world, this Puerto Rican tourist favorite is known for it's amazing water sports such as fishing and diving, and also the fantastic and unique spread of wildlife that is present there. The people are said to be among the friendliest and most fun you will find at any tourist location, not that you would need them to be if you were looking at that view. If you love wildlife with your beautiful white sands than this could be the destination for you this vacation season.

Rhossili Bay: Swansea, Wales

Probably the finest beach in all of Wales, this is one of my favorite places I've ever been on earth. A stunning three mile long, curving bay, Rhossili is surrounded by sand dunes and small islands which cannot be accessed at all times depending on the tide. Behind the bay are prehistoric remain sites, which just adds intrigue to the beauty and expanse of the beach itself. My favorite feature of the beach is the amazing Devil's Bridge at the small island known as 'Worm's Head' which is a naturally formed, sharp angled and precarious looking rock bridge which is truly a sight to see.

Chesterman Beach: British Columbia

One of the best surfing locations on this list, this long curvy beach consists of crashing waves, great scenery and a nearby National Park. The beach has a little bit of everything, so whatever you're looking for in a bay will be available to you. Definitely only a summer beach, but it doesn't disappoint during that period. One of the highlights is the common whale sightings that will appeal to all you wildlife lovers out there. Get your board out and head to Chesterman and make good use of the fantastic surf.

Siesta Key: Florida, USA

Right on our own US shores, is one of the many beautiful beaches in Florida. An odd shaped island that cuts into the Gulf of Mexico, this is a great location for everybody on earth. There is fantastic scenery and walking paths, nice calm, family friendly waters and wonderful sands. Of course, it wouldn't be an American beach without a vibrant surrounding area, and there are some wonderful dining spots to get a meal once your day at the beach is over. If you're in Florida this summer, be sure not to miss the Siesta Key. My last trip was amazing!

Akumal Beach: Mexico

One of the best snorkeling locations on this list, the Akumal Beach in Mexico has some of the best coral sights you'll ever find. The ability to swim with the friendly turtles is remarkable and the other wildlife is said to be some of the most fantastic on earth. The beach is filled with chairs that can be scooped up, and the scenery is amazing. Actually one of the lesser known of these beaches, if you want to see enormous turtles, vibrant fish and even the odd stingray, stop by and check it out.

Grace Bay: Turks and Caicos Islands

With some of the whitest sands, clearest water, and best hotels in the world, the beaches at Grace Bay are some of the best in the world. They are not necessarily known for any one thing, but they are known for being the 'all rounders' if you will. The beaches are not dreadfully crowded as some tourist beaches can be, but they certainly have all the features including some wonderful warm, comfortable waters. Get your five star hotel booked and enjoy the relaxation and activities that Grace Bay has to offer.

Baia do Sancho, Brazil

Possibly the most amazing sight any beach on earth has to offer, is this beautiful Brazilian beach that is enveloped by some of the most vibrant looking cliffs on earth. The water is warm and blue, the sand is a contrasting yellow and the eroded cliffs are filled with bold greens and browns. Whether you want to relax on the sand, see some amazing sea creatures, or walk the path to the top of the cliffs and enjoy the amazing view, this beach is bound to be unforgettable. Brazil is an amazing country and this is it's most amazing beach.

We had a fantastic hloadiy at Beachside during early September. The house was equipped with everything we needed a real home from home and was spotlessly clean. The location was perfect, being right on the beach but also a short walk to shops, cafes and a pub. The footbridge across the River Adur to Shoreham town is currently being replaced, but there is a regular shuttle bus in service. Thanks, Rae we can't wait to go back! lablos

I love the beaches, soaking under the sun. Each of the beaches you mentioned there has its own unique beauty and character. Now I'm dreaming of the blue deep waters and white sands... Flamenco Beach looks particularly spectacular. Thanks for posting.. :)

There are numerous really great beaches in the world hence every top-10 list tends to be different from each other and kind of personal and subjective. My favorite here is certainly the Baths at Vigrin Corda. I couldn't resist but do some research after I saw your entry and it's an absolutely perfect place!

Thanks suzette! I tried to only pick one from each area/country to make sure there was a nice variety. The one in Wales was actually my first pick - my grandparents used to live in Wales so I was a regular!

      Thanks for reading!

Beautiful beaches and beautiful choices! Each one is exquisite. I like that you picked beaches from all over the world and in places many would not connect beaches with such as Wales. Now to try out each beach! lol

      Thanks for reading srsdnn!

Those are very cool shapes, I am always interested in the geology and natural landscapes around beaches. That's why I really like 'The Baths' as a spot to visit. I have never been to India, but a good friend of mine is from India and has described some of the beaches to me. I would love to visit.

      Thanks again for the response!

martin1344, I love beaches and you have shown some of the outstanding beaches. Rabbit Beach at Sicily and Siesta Key at Florida seem to be wonderful sites because of the shapes they have. I have visited quite a few in India but there are so many. I have shown some famous ones in my Hub sometimes back. Awesome, Voted up and shared.
