Texas Renaissance Festival
The Texas Renaissance is a favorite fall activity. People come from all around to visit and be a a part of the activities. I have been out there a few times and really enjoyed myself.
2014 will make the 40th year of this festival that is held in a little place called Todd Mission, Texas about 50 miles from Houston. There are 55 acres to this theme park style attraction that is fun for both adults and kids. .
There are 8 weekends throughout October and November to get out and enjoy some yummy festival food and drink, watch shows, ride rides and shop. ( that's the short list )
They are open on Saturdays and Sundays and some people make a full weekend of it with nearby camping facilities.
They are also open the Friday after Thanksgiving and have two special weekday dates November 4th and 5th just for kids called the School Days Program.
The King Midas Masquerade Ball is a new addition for the 2014 season and you will find information about it farther down on this page.

Let Me Know
Have You Ever Been To The Texas Renaissance Festival
Masquerade Ball At The Texas Renaissance Festival
In addition to the themed weekends, this year they have added masquerade balls. These will only be held on Saturday nights throughout the run of the festival .
You will have to be dressed in some sort of costume to attend the balls. They require that you were something to hide your identity like face paint or masks.
The balls require a separate ticket and are already on sale.
Below are a couple of costume ideas that are not very expensive and will work perfect for this event.
Masquerade Costume Idea For Women
I'd like to go dressed in this black velvet dress. it is a 3 piece set that included the Venetian style mask and headpiece.
This one comes in 4 different sizes. You can read additional information about the dress by clicking the picture.
Masquerade Costume For Men
You will need to wear your own shirt and pants under this costume, but it comes with everything else. The cloak and hat are velvet with gold trim. There is a velvet hood that comes with this and it also includes the long nose renaissance mask.
The Texas Renaissance Festival Has Something For Everyone
The things I have mentioned about the themed weekends are only the special events for those days. There is so much more to the Texas Renaissance Festival.
There is a parade each day at noon. Check your map for the starting location and get set up there to watch everyone come by in costume.
You can see bird shows, magic shows, fire shows, hear lots of music performed on stage and by characters that walk around.
Adults and kids can enjoy taking a ride on human powered rides. Yep, they push you.
Head over the the arena to watch the jousting on horseback and be sure to be there at the end of the evening for the closing and fireworks.
Belly dancers perform on stage and will be walking though the crowd, so don't be surprised if one comes up and starts dancing for you.
Expect to get hollered at by the beer wenches trying to sell beer and hot turkey legs.
There are other games of skill located in the park where you can shoot a bow and arrow or throw a knife.
My favorite of these was where you get to throw tomatoes at the man working the booth. His job is to insult you, and he will try. In return you buy some soft tomatoes and smash them a little then throw them at him.
Well, the list goes on and you can find out more by visiting the web site. I have provided a link to it below.
