Texas
The Longhorn—an icon of the 28th state
Spirited Mockingbird belts out a tejas song
Crossed the border once again this date
Texas, I’ve been gone much too long.
Wheels turning and gallons of fuel burning
Mississippi becomes a recent memory
Where ever I travel seems I’m always returning
To the Lone Star--its grandeur and glory.
Point was to travel from Eastern Caroline…west
To marvel at Giant Sequoias…the Oregon coast.
Truth be told…the great state of Texas is truly blessed
The Hill Country, Austin and the Gulf it boasts.
Ghost lights in Marfa can surely send a chill or delight
San Antonio, the River Walk…the Alamo
The McDonald Observatory not recording merely starlight…
Attributes to The Lone Star state’s status quo.
Up around Amarillo…Route 66 followed the railroads
For some one hundred seventy eight miles.
75200 plus are some great zip codes
Southfork’s mention force unaware smiles.
Even though I’ve grown fond of your Lone Star
The time will once again come for me to depart
Wheels keep turning will often take me far
Texas…will forever remain fondly in my heart.
