Thailand Holidays and Thailand Tours

Updated on June 5, 2011

Holiday in Thailand

In this article I wanted to share the information I have found about Thailand holidays since I plan to visit this country in a month or so when I take my career break from my day job. I mainly wanted to visit there because I have already seen photographs of the beautiful Buddhist monasteries and this is something I am interested in as well the history of the ancient temples built in the 13th century.

I admire Buddhism as a religion or philosophy depending on how you class it because many people believe that since there is no god involved it is not a religion, however, the word religion is described as a 'bond' in the dictionary and this is different from a philosophy which people just read about but do not follow the ethics strictly.

Phra Prang Sam Yod, Lopburi,

The Prang Sam Yod temple in Thailand was built in the 13th century AD under the rein of Khmer King Jayavarman VII and was in fact a Hindu temple with 3 stone steeples to represent the trinity of Brahma, Visnu and Siva. It was later converted to a Buddhist shrine when the kingdom of Ayutthaya rose to power, it is not particular eloquent or interesting but people also flock to see the group of 100 long tailed monkeys who now occupy it and survive of food from the tourists!

On a Thailand map, Lopburi is located around 150km North East of Bangkok and is the capital city of the Lopburi province of Thailand.

Karon Beach, Phuket

Phuket is an island of fun, linked to the mainland by a causeway and blessed with long stretches of white sand beach hidden in sheltered coves. As we can see from the photo above, Thailand is famous for its long tail boats and I find these particularly intresting because I once saw a Chinese fishing boat in the national history museum London so I want to see more Asian boats.

In Phuket town you can explore the colonial heritage from Portuguese settlers of the 16th century, and you can also buy some great arts and crafts in the market.

Many young guys go to Pataya because they want to see all of the promiscuous women but I wanted to go to Bangkok because I want to travel far and I heard there are cheap flights to Thailand. The city of Bangkok has the hectic pace, the smiling crowds, the wonderful disorder of its geography, the constant mix of old and new, the heady nightlife and the amazing culinary scene.

I want to see the Grand Palace and the Emerald Buddha Temple but I also know that shopping can be enjoyed in abundance at exciting street markets in Patpong as well as a Chinatown, although I was surprised to learn they would have one!

Thailand Weather

Thailand is known as the land of 1000 smiles and I am sure I will receive the warmest welcome. The friendly Thai people have a lot to smile about, they have tropical beaches in the south, historic cities and jungle-clad mountains.

The weather in Thailand is tropic and the climate is usually hot and humid. Thailand’s weather is controlled by monsoons which produce three seasons in the area north of Bangkok and two seasons in the southern peninsular.

Thailand Art

Most Thai art consists of images of Buddha and the narratives usually include the Jataka stories, episodes of Buddha's life and the Buddhist versions of heavens and hell. The earliest Buddhist artwork is from the 14th century and is called Sukhothai from the Sukhothai period from which it came, this artwork is usually quite elegant and the figurative imagery is slender with oval heads.

I would like to buy some creative ornaments when I travel to Thailand and this includes the traditional work, pendants and possible some cartoon style work similar to the Japanese anime that we see today and in the image before last.

Thank you for the memories. I went to Thailand with the intention of staying for only six months teaching English. I ended up staying five years. Perfect climate, culture and cuisine.
