The Beautiful World We Live In

Updated on August 28, 2013

You see them all the time on National Geographic and the Travel channels; beautiful exotic locations that seem to have fallen from the heavens… as if angels have hand-painted every single detail with the richest oil paints; a dream to be chased and experienced. The world is filled with many great cities and countries, overflowing with centuries of cultural history and beautiful architectural sights. The travel bug should have bitten you by now and, if you’re feeling claustrophobic in the comfort zone of your little, quiet town – why not bite that bug back? Pack your bags, because at the end of it all, your life is in need of an adventure!

Europe is a treasure trove of beautiful destinations – some of which have been discovered many years ago and are popular amongst tourists and others which have been preserved from the influence of modern society and kept pure and beautiful. We will be exploring the best of both worlds, so get ready for adventure!

Our first stop is Italy; a must-see destination for art lovers, fashionistas and opera enthusiasts... actually almost every type of personality wants a piece of Italy. If you are an avid Travel Channel viewer, you should know that the most popular city in Italy is Rome; the place that was not built in a day; rather it took a few good centuries for it to mature into the magnificent historical gem that it is now.

Rome is a big city. The best place to start is with you - trust your passion to guide you. If religion is your forerunner, begin your adventure at the enchanting Vatican City, where the Sistine Chapel forms part of the Apostolic Palace, and is housed and occupied by the Holy See Pope Francis. The Sistine Chapel is famous for its amazing architecture and alluring frescoes that adorn the walls and ceiling of this iconic church. Painted by various Renaissance artists; including Sandro Botticelli, Pietro Perugino and, of course, the well-known Michelangelo, who painted the ceiling fresco that included the famous “The creation of Adam”. This chapel holds centuries of history and tales of the millions who came through this building.

The Sistine Chapel is such an inspiring place; it can’t help but evoke the artist within you. The problem is, while painting like Michelangelo may seem like the definition of wishful thinking, don’t fret, you don’t need to be an actual artist to own a piece of great artwork. Italy is bountiful with great artists and fashion, so when in Rome do as the Romans do and SHOP. The best place to shop in Italy is Florence, Tuscany. The country’s fashion capital has three premium shopping spots, so there is no way you will be disappointed. Check out:

The Mall

The Mall is a luxury outlet centre that offers the customers a wide range of designer outfits from the likes of Burberry, Alexander McQueen, Valentino, Gucci and much more. It’s very elegant and modern, so shopping at The Mall will definitely leave you with the bona fide Italian shopping experience.

Fashion Valley in Regello

Appropriately named ‘Fashion Valley’, this fashion outlet is a truly a valley any Fashionista worthy of the name would fight to shop at. The Fashion Valley is contemporary and modern with the latest designer brands adorning its stores; representing the sophistication of fashion houses from around the world.

Prada Space Outlet

A train ride is all it takes to get you to the Space Outlet and it is worth the trip! Once you get there all your fashion dreams start becoming reality, because it really is Prada Haven in there. Every Prada product your stylish heart desires is available - from shoes, bags, clothes and if they could sell it, designer Prada cereal (sounds designer divine).

Italy truly is gorgeous, especially during the summer. The buildings and stores give off an old romantic feel, so traveling around in a taxi or bus doesn’t do justice to the beauty of Italy. Why not rent out a bike or a scooter instead and explore the cities of Italy the old-fashioned way?

If you’re looking for a summer vacation, head over to Greece! This mystical country will inspire you with its beautiful buildings, intriguing history and stunning, sandy white beaches. Greece is definitely the place for romance; a dream destination for budding romantics and poets. Greece has a lot to offer as a tourist destination, but the best way to explore it is not through a travel agency. Why not adopt a family who will welcome you into their home for the holiday? This is a good way to experience the true Grecian lifestyle. Go to this site and be one step closer to finding your perfect host family.

What can be done in Greece?

Greece is well-known for its mythological history, so what better way to celebrate than visiting the homes of their famous gods and goddesses the temple of Olympian Zeus in Athens. This spectacular building is one of the Seven Wonders of the World and is said to be one of the largest temples in the country. Another favorite is Aphrodite, the goddess of love. The Temple of Aphrodite Urania is located north-west of the Ancient Agora of Athens. For lovers young and old, take a trip to this majestic temple and if you believe in Aphrodite hard enough, feel her powers bond you and your partner closer together.

Greece is lovely in the summer, so why not hit the waves? Mrytos Beach is very popular amongst holiday seekers. With its pure white sand and clear blue waters, this beach is sure to entice you to come back for more, or even convince you to never leave its glorious sandy bay. The beach is protected by a mountain of rock and lush vegetation, making you feel as though you are stranded on a secluded island, adding to its beauty.

South America is the next stop so get ready to have your mind blown by the beautiful, spicy countries of Argentina and Uruguay! While both these countries may be famous for their football-crazy culture and legendary players; as a holiday destination choice these countries have a lot to offer summer vacation seekers.

Argentina is an enchanting country famous for many things, but most especially the Tango, an intense dance style that tells a story of great love and heartache. Much of Argentina’s beauty comes from Mother Nature, with its beautiful wildlife, waterfalls, beaches and lots more.

One of the best tourist sites is Iguaçu Falls. These cascading waters are indeed a great place to start your tour of Argentina. This amazing natural wonder is 82 meters in height and holds an impressive number of 275 waterfalls.

For a burst of colour inspiration, why not take a trip down to La Boca? This bright and vibrant working class district is very popular with travellers. The first place you have to see is Caminito Street; this vivid and traditional walkway is a hotspot for Tango dancers and music.

If you want to get really deep into the culture and vibe of Caminito Street, take some Tango lessons before the trip or, if you want a fairytale, find a handsome Argentinean Tango dancer to teach you a few moves. This will definitely help you dance your way into a romantic whirlwind of Argentinean magic.

Uruguay is not always the most popular choice for a tourist destination, although it should be! Uruguay is an amazing country that has so much to show the world and, being one of the most beautiful countries in South America, you are guaranteed a bountiful of great beaches and local culture. Just like Argentina, it is a colourful place with vibrant people.

Is Uruguay the place to be?

YES! Montevideo, the capital city of Uruguay is peaceful and calming with waters so blue they seem to have been painted with brilliant oil colours. Landmarks include the Puerta de la Ciudadela, a citadel well-known for its Gateway that stands remaining after the destruction of the colonial fort in 1833. The Teatro Solis is Uruguay’s oldest theatre and will immerse you in its ancient architecture and cultural history. The Parque Rodó, a barrio (neighbourhood or district) of Montevideo, includes an amusement park and an artificial lake.

Punta Del Este is a favourite summer vacation destination and is often compared to the likes of St. Tropez for its modern and contempory design and feel. Punta del Esta also has stunning beaches and its walkway, Avenida Gorlero, is where you will find the most amazing shops. From here you will be able to see the port, light house and a plaza filled with craft fairs. This definitely sounds like a brilliant place to spend your money and get great deals on beautiful pieces.

Bear in mind this is just the tip of the summer vacation iceberg; the world is a massive place and only 10% of its beauty has been discovered. Right now is the time to embrace your adventurous side and get up and at it. Begin your journey today!
