The Dorchester Hotel- London

Updated on May 14, 2013

London's Top Hotel

A London luxury hotel, The Dorchester opened on the eighteenth of April in 1931. It overlooks Hyde Park and is situated on Park Lane, Mayfair. This hotel is one of the world's most desirable places to stay. A great reputation embodying top traditional values and luxurious amenities with spacious suites and rooms of total charm plus a spa you can indulge in makes this hotel the pinnacle of ease and luxury for half a century.

World War II

In WWII, the construction strength gave the hotel its reputation of being the safest building in London. Winston Churchill and Cabinet Ministers Duff Cooper and Lord Halifax stayed in this hotel at this time. To his balcony, Churchill had a wall built for added privacy which remains to this day. On teh first floor, General Dwight D. Eisenhower took a suite. Dorchester diners from this period include Edith Sitwell, Harold Nicolson, T.S. Eliot and Cyril Connolly.

Suites and Rooms

The Dorchester introduces twenty-two new suites by Alexandra Champalimaude, interior designer. Remaining true to the classic residential style of the hotel, the new suites merge timeless glamour and contemporary comfort to the world-renowned heritage of the property. The Harlequin, Terrace and Audley roof suites remind you of old glamour from Hollywood. These suites feature luxurious, modern and fresh styles with large terraces outside. Unrivaled London views and on hand butlers address your every need.

Weddings

The perfect choice for your flawless day, the Dorchester is London's most elegant wedding address. Every kind of celebration is accommodated by 8 stunning rooms for banquets from the glittering champagne reception to the marriage ceremony. The unobtrusive yet attentive staff will help create the perfect memory to your unforgettable day.

The Dorchester Spa

Reopened in '09, the Spa in Dorchester went through a total renovation bringing London pampering that was exclusive. The glamorous Art Deco and iconic British Dorchester style was combined with an edge that was contemporary. Aspects that are unique include a South Pacific pearl chandelier and a Spatisserie of indulgence. Carol Joy London features signature facials and Aroma Therapy Associates and Kerstin Florian feature treatments. There are 9 sound proof spacious rooms including a sleek relaxation space, a manicure and pedicure suite and 2 double suites.

Bars and Restaurants

The award winning Dorchester bars and restaurants are run by the most welcoming teams of London. At The Promenade you can come for delicious tea in the afternoon. You can also get a taste of home-grown British fare at The Grill or Alain Ducasse French contemporary cuisine. China Tang features endless live jazz and parties that are a great way to begin or end your evening.

Child Friendly

The Dorchester welcomes families and children. The concierge is able to arrange great activities that children will enjoy throughout London as well as a nanny or qualified babysitter if necessary. Child-friendly dining options that your kids will love and arrangements for active children or infants are all possible. If you want to go sightseeing in London, the hotel is just fifty minutes away from London central where Coworth Park offers equestrian lessons for every level of skill.
