I learned about making sheep's wool during my stay in South Africa. An interesting process to oversee.

Travel Experiences

Six years ago, my son went on an excursion it was a school trip planned a year in advance. He had two choices. Barcelona, or Prague and the most affordable was Prague.

I was excited for the opportunity to see another part of the world. They had stopped in Austria, Vienna, , and he managed to capture a few photos while in Vienna.

The Belvedere Palace was one of the photos that caught my attention.

I found the architecture in this design unique and so beautiful.

The short visit to Vienna was enjoyable with his classmates and a bit expensive too.

Prague has one of the largest castles in the world. The huge building is situated on a hill and overlooks the city.

The building has a huge banquet hall not much information was shared about the castle to the school children.

A simple and down to earth kind of living in Prague allows for the selling of drugs including weed on street corners.

  • The meal of Pork and dumplings is the main dish in Prague.

A week in Prague was affordable and is one of the greater attractions of Europe as most parts are so beautiful.

Vienna was most beautiful that is in my son's opinion and is a very clean city with a luxurious standard of living.

Croatia is a very neat and tidy place in itself.

The old town in Dubrovnik is one of the best attractions to millions of tourists annually.

I have taken my time to see a bit of lovely Croatia. had the opportunity to experience what at that time was new to me. I discovered the many interesting places. A small community and I found my way easily around Dubrovnik.

I go about toward September when most of the tourists have traveled back home. It is much quieter and traffic is not a problem. In September the weather is much cooler, and swimming is still a possibility.

I am not much of a swimmer and prefer to walk around and admire the traditional crafts the local people sell to tourists from the local markets.

The summer games are a great entertainment and it gives me the pleasure to stay a while in the old town. I watch the performances by different artists and to walk by with a smile.

Watching people is what I enjoy while sitting with my loved ones. Another option is exploring the side streets.

I liked my short visit to Zagreb the capital of Croatia and I do intend to travel back soon. I liked the many shopping malls and the foods. The tramps along the middle of town were a good experience for me.

The lifestyle and dialect are different in comparison to the region in the most southern part my new place.

I have noticed the Croatian dialect along the coast is completely different to the one in Konavle So speaking to other Croatian people from along the coast of Dalmatia is not always easy to understand..

Then again learning never stops but I try to stay with what I know off-hand and have learned all the new words of the Croatian language.

The older words are rarely spoken by the new generation but are mostly spoken by the older generation.

I don't often come into contact with the people from the other parts of Croatia in this way the dialect is not a problem to understand.

When old Croatian words are mentioned in normal daily conversations I am confused. These words give me the impression I don't know the language. When the new words are replaced with the old words it all comes back to me.

I have found that my choice is to listen to what I know and have much of a less focus on the old words. Not necessary for me to learn ancient words.

Though when spoken of I try to remember and write down the old Croatian words.

The many beautiful places of Europe are most interesting and with the historical views.

The clear photos of Europe make the place look very perfect.

The photos of churches and other historic buildings are incredible to one's eye.

The trip to Prague and Vienna was a great experience for my son.

At least he has an idea of both places and knows what to expect if he ever decided to travel there again.

The destinations should be carefully planned financially and with safety purposes. In Prague it did not look as safe.

There were a few guys walking around who tried to get the attention of the younger guys on this trip on false pretenses.

For example:

One guy came up to my son and asked if he was interested in the purchase of drugs or weed such behavior is so unacceptable.

They feel it is a way for easy money but to someone so young and to want to try and influence drugs on him is a lack of control.

My son walked away from the guy but sometimes people can get caught up with these types of people and all can go wrong.

There are smooth talkers the type who cons others into believing their false stories or compliments so they can lead the gullible to other bad behaviors in the belief of making money.

I am sure this happens in most places to win a few bucks on the other hand it is not a good impression for tourism.

  • Ripping off people for what they have and to con them into their believable stories is not fair.

Lucky for my son he is smart and has been spoken to about such types of people and he knew then as he does now not to talk to strangers.

In this case he was in a strange place and he did not believe the scammer.

  • It is however, worth traveling to anywhere in the world providing you know your exact itinerary.

Don't rely on strangers to show you the way rather have a travel guide it is a better idea not that the travel guides are not strangers but with a back ground check you know what you are getting yourself into when traveling. Booked through travel agents should be safe and free of scams.

It is easy for tourists to be scammed in foreign places instead avoid the too obvious.

I am enjoying my new life in Croatia and hope to travel to other places along the coast.

The bluish color beaches are among the cleanest beaches and are crowded during the summer.

The peaceful life here allows me to write more and keeps me focused on my life.

I prefer the countryside and living in a crime-free region is all the better for staying safe and secure at heart.

Many times I went to bed without locking our doors it was unintentional and the next day all was fine that is my greatest moments of freedom.

  • Safety is important.

It is unusual for me to leave doors unlocked and have got quite used to my new lifestyle. All in time and here I am doing what I did not dream of.

The adjustments have taken us far and wide from knowledge to a mind of big thinking, and to another part of the world. The short visits to the few places mentioned have only improved our thoughts and ideas.

Life is what you make of it and I have chosen to make my life happy and free issues.

Dubrovnik is a well-liked place and has a main street called Stradun in the Croatian language meaning just that the ''main street'' the name has been from years ago.

Paved in limestone and can be slippery at times you got to wear a good pair of shoes to avoid falling one can easily slip and fall on limestone streets.

It has happened to me a few times I try to walk in a good pace and with a good balance.

Have you visited the most southern part of Croatia?

Europe is my best travel destination now that I am living in Croatia I have a better chance to visit other European countries and since Croatia is part of the European Union I do not acquire a visa.

Traveling time does require a proper planning and can be less cost effective and the over a thousand islands makes Croatia one of best destinations on the map.

Hi DDE! This is a really nice hub. I could create a mental picture of Croatia and enjoy the culture and customs without leaving my seat. :) I particularly liked the name of this hub. Travel is indeed the best form of learning, not only about people, customs and cultures but also about your own strengths, weaknesses and fears!

Traveling is the best education that life can offer. I grew up very poor and was not able to travel when I was young. As my career progressed, I "invested" reluctantly in travel and found it offered one of life's greatest rewards. You are very wise to have invested in the travel experience for you son. Thank you for sharing.

That's nice that your son had the chance to visit Prague and Vienna, Devika. I am sure that he appreciated the opportunity to visit different countries!

I went through Vienna with a school ski trip. My husband went to visit Prague also with a school trip. We visited different countries from Europe but there are still quite a few to explore. I hope that one time, I can visit Croatia! There are so many nice places to discover around the world! Where do we start!

Interesting hub and great pictures! Thank you for sharing!

      Have a fantastic Sunday, Devika!
