Note: In this guide, your starting point is assumed within urban places or within the capital city of the island of Cebu which is Cebu City.

1. Ride a jeepney to SM Cebu.

Approximate Cost: (Depends on how far you are from SM Cebu)

  • Regular Price: Php 7-10 (around 0.14-0.19 USD)
  • Discounted Price (Student, Senior Citizen, Person with Disability (PWD), etc.): Php 6-8 (0.12-1.15 USD)

Duration of Travel: 15-50 minutes (Depending on your location)

Going to SM Cebu City will be the first step to take in our travel to Camotes Island. Since the necessary vehicle that is required for the next step will be readily available near SM Cebu, particularly a road over Sun Gold, it is highly suggested that you ride any of the jeepneys with the following codes:

  • 01I
  • 01K
  • 03Q
  • 04L

For more information about the jeepney routes and code with a route going to SM City Cebu, you can visit:

Now, if you are still having a lot of confusion on what jeepney to ride towards SM Cebu, you can consult Google Maps. There's a convenient function in the app that tells you what jeepney to ride starting from your current location.

If you do not want the jeepney you are riding to be too crowded or simply wanted to avoid heavy traffics, I suggest you take the vehicle during non-rush hours. In my case, I and my friends rode the jeepney around 9:00 p.m. Philippine Time and were actually quite comfortable due mainly to us being the only customers.

2. Ride another jeepney to Danao.

Approximate Cost: Php 35 (around 0.68 USD)

Duration of Travel: 1.5 - 2 hours

Upon arriving at SM Cebu, across the mall entrance, and across Sun Gold, you can find several jeepneys park at the side of the street. You'll ride these jeepneys in order to get to Danao.

Again, to avoid overcrowding of seats and hot and humid atmosphere, the best time to ride these jeepneys is at night. Moreover, riding jeepneys at this time would also mean fewer chances for traffic.

3. Ride a ship (Express or RORO) to Camotes Island.

Approximate Cost: See Table

Duration of Travel: 2 hours

As a friendly advice, to make sure that the buying of the tickets run smoothly (i.e. avoiding long waiting lines), make sure to buy the tickets at least an hour before the scheduled departure. In addition, to avail discounts, if ever you want one, you'll need to present a valid I.D. to the post so make sure you bring those as well.

Finally, you arrived at Camotes Island!

After the long journey, you finally have stepped on your desired destination!

Still, this is just the start of your adventure. You might want to look at all the famous tourist spots on the island including the famous Buhol Rock and Bukilat Cave.

You can roam the island mainly on a bus, if available, or with hired vehicles (e.g. motorcycle or jeepney), which charges you at least a thousand peso a day. If you want the most affordable way to roam the island, I would suggest asking the locals to rent their vehicles or asking your relatives or close friends to introduce you to a resident on the island who can both act as your driver and guide.

Anyways, have fun with your vacation!
