What's so Great About the Skylounge in Amsterdam?
The SkyLounge in Amsterdam
The SkyLounge in Amsterdam is also known as the DoubleTree Rooftop Bar. It is located in the DoubleTree by Hilton Amsterdam Centraal Station. The address is at Oosterdoksstraat 4, 1011 DK Amsterdam, Netherlands. When visiting the website, it offers a cozy, classy, upscale vibe with colors that are inviting and in various shades of warm tones, overlooking the beautiful city. The restaurant bar blends the best of global travelers with those who are well-seasoned Amsterdam. The establishment is open Sunday to Tuesday from 11 AM to 1 AM. It's open from Wednesday and Thursday from 11 AM to 2 AM. Friday and Saturdays, this place is open from 11 AM to 3 AM. The SkyLounge can host weddings as it's a certified wedding location and other kinds of receptions and gatherings. This restaurant bar has a hipster feel but in a way that reflects the positivism of the word. There are no entrance fees or dress codes, and one can walk upstairs and feel as they are part of whatever is going on in that hour. SkyLounge is on the 11th floor of the DoubleTree Hilton, for reference. The overall feel is modern, trendy and chic.
For the upcoming New Year's Party called Gold, Glitter and Glamour, there is a wonderful event taking place. Entrance fee is 150 Euro per person which is equivalent to $176.18 in American dollars. This includes a Champagne glass and a small food item. An upgraded ticket is 240 Euros (equivalent to $281.89 in American dollars) and includes dinner on the ground floor with starters, a main dish, and decadent desert including entrance to the seafood bar and the exclusive Gold, Glitter and Glamour area after the dinner is finished.
The views are amazing. One can decide to stay inside or go out on the terrace. They have a large selection of cocktails and lovely appetizers like the crunchy chicken for meat-lovers and nachos for vegetarians. The nachos come in an exceptionally large bowl and cost about 12 Euro or 14.09 American dollars. The restaurant bar is within walking distance of the central station, making it easy to access. Most of the drinks are considered a 'heavy pour' and quite strong. Drinks that were considered high standards were the classic mojito and the Mora Mora. The music appealed to the crowd and had a good selection of electronic-weaved music, which is highly popular in Amsterdam. The music is played by live DJ's that include music that sets the mood, such as playing an Ibiza Style sundown type number. Service was said to be polite and friendly, even though it was quite slow. The lounge outside is said to be charming and comfortable. If you are chilly, the staff does offer blankets. The staff is multilingual, and professional.
The restaurant bar may be quite crowded, and one may have to wait a significant amount of time to obtain a table. It's a bit pricey here. Cocktails may seem to be what is higher than the 'market average,' but if you consider the location, one can see why. The drinks may have too much ice, especially the specialty drinks. Drinks are about seventeen to nineteen Euro for one cocktail, which equates to about $19.97 to $22.32 per cocktail in American dollars. An espresso is seven EUro, which is equivalent to $8.22 United States dollars. Some may have felt that service was slower than it should be. The food portions may be considered quite small. Sometimes the sunset views, depending on the day, weather or hour, may be blocked by surrounding structures. If you require sweetener, bring your own as SkyLounge does not offer any at this time. Make sure to pay your tab before leaving to go to the bathroom, or the waiter or waitress may try to flag you down to make sure you are aware that the bill is open. Since mostly finger foods are offered, keep in mind that you may need to eat beforehand or plan to eat after your visit to SkyLounge. Some individuals were dismayed when they ordered drinks or a full bottle of champagne, only to be told that they had to leave due to closing time, without warning. The closing times are quite strict, so keep the closing time in mind before ordering a drink. Sometimes, you have to go to the counter to pay the bill, which may leave you waiting long for a waitress to tend to you.
This is a fantastic restaurant bar to visit. It's a great way to get to know other globetrotters as well as those who are familiar with Amsterdam. While the atmosphere is fun and inviting, be prepared to spend money at this location. The biggest complaints were the size of the crowd and the price of the drinks, but the city views, the unforgettable experience, and the gorgeous sunsets make spending the extra cash completely worth it. If you'd like to sit next to a window, ensure to make a reservation beforehand. Amsterdam doesn't have many rooftop bars, so this one is one to visit while staying in this historic town. Outside can get quite windy and cold, so be prepared for the weather and the temperature by making sure to check the weather in advance before visiting. The indoor seating does have proper heating systems. If you go during the day for a coffee while overlooking the city, you have a better chance of getting a window seat with a clear view, faster service, and with less of a crowd.
