The Comedy Club

The Stardome Comedy Club is located in Hoover, Alabama. Bruce Ayers founded the club in 1983. Since that time, a lot of comedians have graced these walls, and the laughs just keep coming. The comedy club features comedians year round from all over the U.S.A. The bar is called the Blues Bar and it is located in the comedy club. Food is served during the shows. Many laughs have come and gone at the comedy club.

The food to me is a little bit on the pricey side for the amount of food that you get and the type of food that you are getting. I remember eating a hamburger and french fries and it was quite good. Alcohol is served throughout most of the show. Eating during the show is neat, since you can not do that just anywhere. This is a great place to bring your friends and eat and drink the night away. If you have been to The Comedy Club before, you know that this is a place that you do not have to dress up necessarily, but, just a night to unwind.

I have personally been to the Stardome Comedy Club seven or eight times and most of the time I have been, it has been for my birthday. If you let someone at the front of the comedy club know, they will announce that it is your birthday then you will get heckled and made fun of the entire night which is in a way is pretty fun.

Also, local talent occasionally performs but, famous funny people from television and film regularly grace Alabama's best comedy hot spot to perform. Charlie Murphy, Paulie Shore, Steve-o, David Alan Grier and many others continue to come perform. The walls adorning the hallways are littered with autographed posters and memorabilia of the past and present comedians who have graced these doors. This is such a great venue to have right here in our own back yard.

Things to note if are attending for the first time. Seating is first come first serve so, if you get in early then you are fine but, if you get the last few seats without a table it is pretty uncomfortable. You are at a small end table with very large stools. There are actually just a couple of bad places to sit but, overall, you have a great view of the the stage. The auditorium has been equipped with a great speaker sound system and a huge high definition theater screen hanging above the comics stage. Pictures of great comedians adorn the whole club which is nice decorating for a comedy venue. Caricature pictures of various comedians can be found all throughout the club.

The menu for the comedy club leaves something to be desired. The food is a bit on the pricey side for me however, I do remember the food having a good taste. For appetizers they feature chicken fingers, loaded french fried, cheese sticks, fried mushrooms, chips and salsa, chicken wings and chicken strips. For the main meal there are burgers on the menu that are made of sirloin, the baked chicken which is seasoned and grilled. They also serve shrimp either fried, scampi or cajun. The beverages are plentiful. You will find that they serve alcoholic as well as non-alcoholic drinks. I remember having my first Virgin Strawberry Daiquiri here and I thought I was something. They serve wine, beer, cokes, tea, frozen drinks and smoothies.

Usually after the show the comics are at the Blue's Bar and are very accessible and will sign autographs and sometimes they actually set up in the front entrance and meet the fans. The tickets to watch the shows vary depending on the comedian who is coming but, the prices are usually reasonable. They usually give away tickets earlier they will put a spotlight on you and crack jokes directed at you and anyone else present that is celebrating a birthday. So, if you don't like being the center of attention, this may not be the place for you.

Party of 12 please

I have not been to the Comedy Club quite so many times but, I do enjoy going just to be doing something different. If you have a large group of people. They are good at giving away free tickets for a less popular comedian to promote the comedian but, also to promote the Comedy Club. The only money that you will need in that case, (if you are the winner of 12 free tickets from the Comedy Club StarDome), as I was 2-3 times, you will need money for food, drinks and a tip for waiter or waitress. This is a great, one stop shop for entertainment.

I think that this is a great way to see who can drop what they are doing and go with you sometimes at kind of a last minute's notice. Unless you have a large family then, it can be awkward in the combination of twelve people at the table. (Just sayin').

Also, you may want to check out the comedian before you drag people with an expectation of a G rated show and the show is more rated R material. That can be an awkward situation for everyone involved.
I overall think that the StarDome is a great experience for your more "dinner and a show type of night, with a group." It's a great place to un-wind.
