The Venice of the East

Updated on December 29, 2014

An excellent holiday spot

Alappuzha, in Kerala State, in India is also called the Venice of the East. With backwaters, luxurious resorts and many boats, this looks really like Venice. One of the very fine resorts there is at Mararikulam. It is a place worth seeing. Excellent lake fish can come on your tables with a very refined cooking style.

How to get there. There are two international airports from which, this nuzzling town can be easily accessed. One is the newly renovated Kochi Airport called The Nedumbasseri Airport. From here Alappuzha is just an hour's drive. The other airport is Trivandrum, the capital city of Kerala State from here Alappuzha can be reached within three hours from fast moving trains as well as by road. Trivandrum is connected to Singapre, Dubai, AbuDhabi, Doha, Muscat etc in the Middle East. This is because Kerala has been supplying a major part of the labor requirements of the Middle East ever since the Gulf boom (with millions of petrodollars.)

You will certainly find that Alappuzha is really the Venice of the East. Access from here is also possible to many other places of interest to the discerning travelers. These places are in kerala, also called as the God's own Country.
