The Villa St. Exupery Garden Hostel in Nice, France
The Villa St. Exupery Garden Hostel is the best place for backpackers to stay in Nice, France. Voted the best hostel in France, by Hostel World, in 2007, 2009, and 2010, the St. Exupery has no shortage of accolades in the backpacking community.
The Hostel's location to downtown Nice, the incredible view from the gardens, endless amenities, and a clean, friendly atmosphere, make staying at the Villa St. Exupery Garden Hostel an incredible experience.
The hostel is named after Antoine de-Saint Exupery, the author of the children's story Le Petite Prince. The Little Prince's journey is woven into the tapestry of the hostel. If you look closely, you can find quotes embedded into the walls and allusions to the book everywhere. As a lover of the book, i found the St. Exupery Garden Hostel to be a fantastic nod to the spirit of travel and adventure.
The Villa St. Exupery Garden Hostel knows what the modern backpacker needs to have incredible adventures and stay connected. The hostel offers free wi-fi, and has 12 free computers for personal use.
What sets this hostel apart from all others is the excellent cuisine offered. For only a couple of Euro the hostel offers salad, pizza, and select entrees created by talented chefs. When I stayed at the hostel dinner was decadently prepared for 5€. A vending machine is also available with inexpensive food and items like toothbrushes and shampoo.
At nighttime the chapel, from the days when the hostel was a monastery, are turned into a bar, where inexpensive French wine can be purchased. In the morning, it is turned into a free breakfast bar.
For the accommodations, backpacker can choose from several different room options. Single rooms, and bunk rooms ranging from 3-14 people are available in both co-ed and gender specific rooms. For a small fee, the staff will even do your laundry and deliver it to your room, fresh and folded.
I personally stayed in one of the female only 14 person rooms. The room was very clean and had plenty of space for everyone and their belongings. My room came with a locker, where you could store your belongings safely. I immensely enjoyed meeting everyone in my room and having an incredible group of people to socialize with.
The Villa St. Exupery Hostel is an adventure lover's paradise. You'll wish you could stay a month just to see and experience everything. The hostel has its own adventure tour service, offering skiing, canyoning, sailing, scuba diving, walking tours, car rentals yoga classes, and water skiing. They have partnered with local business to offer the backpacker an incredible experience at unbeatable prices.

Only a short train or bus ride away, the principality of Monaco is decadence at its best. The whole country of Monaco is less than one square mile, making it easy to see on a day trip. The Monte Carlo Casino, made famous by James Bond, is one of the world's most beautiful casinos. Just watching all of the Ferraris, Maseratis, and Lamborghinis drive by makes it well worth the trip. A playground for billionaires, Monaco has endless designer boutiques, yachts the size of cruise ships, and million dollar raises at the poker tables.
The medieval town of Eze, sits halfway between Monaco and Nice. Just a short bus ride away, it is a lovely stop on your way to Menton, Italy, or Monaco. Inside little hobbit sized stone caverns, small shops adorn the village. One retailer carves beautiful olive wood into everything from clocks to spaghetti servers. At the very top is an exotic garden with the best views of the Mediterranean.
Miles of beaches, a quaint old town section, endless museums and monuments, crystal clear water, and tons of shopping, make Nice a great place to explore. The old portion of town has traditional architecture, historical sites, and a harbor with tons of brightly colored boats.
The St. Exupery Garden Hostel.
A small country of billionaires, fancy cars, and men with white gloves at every corner.
A Medieval town built for Hobbits. With fantastic local artisans, an exotic garden, and a bar in a cave, be sure to make Eze on of your stops.
I give the St. Exupery Garden Hostel 5 Stars!
