The Volcano at the Mirage in Las Vegas

Updated on March 24, 2011

A good free show on the Strip

There are several great free shows in front of hotels and casinos on the Las Vegas Strip. Among those are the pirate show at Treasure Island, the fountain show at the Bellagio, and the volcano eruption in front of the Mirage. The Mirage is located in the middle of the Strip on the southbound side. It was the hotel featured in the 1990's movie Vegas Vacation. Built in 1989, the hotel is a little dated by modern Las Vegas standards, but luckily you don't have to stay their to enjoy the free volcano show every night.

Does it cost anything?

Of course not. Like the other shows in front of casinos, it's free to watch the volcano erupt at The Mirage. They want you hanging around their casino, which is why they spend tens of millions of dollars on this exhibition, and tens of millions more to update it with more water and pyrotechnic features in 2008. It was designed by WET, the same company that designed the fountains at the Bellagio.

The volcano erupts on the hour starting at dusk, and erupts each hour until 11 pm. You can get their by Las Vegas taxi, or if you buy a pass on the Deuce bus you can get a lift to the Mirage from anyplace on the Strip or from Fremont Street.

Wow, I don't even remember seeing this when I was there. I got lots of pictures of the fountain and the pirate show, I don't know how I missed this, it's not like it's so small you can just walk past it and not see it. Great Hub though, it took me 20 years to get my husband to take me so don't know if i'll get there again to see this volcano.
