A trip to the Yankee Candle flagship store in South Deerfield, Massachusetts is more than a shopping trip. It is an absolute adventure for the whole family. The Yankee Candle store is a year-round tourist attraction because it offers so much to see and do. The highlight of the store is the Yankee Candles themselves. The company calls itself, "The Scenter of New England" and if you have ever smelled a Yankee candle, you will understand why.

The Store

The Yankee Candle Flagship Store is fun for all ages. Not only does it have a whole room filled with stuffed animals and candy to purchase, but surprises are in store for all as they wander through different areas of the attraction. There is an enchanting Black Forest area where pines trees abound, and the snow falls intermittently all day long, even in summer months. It's a fun experience for children and adults alike. Visitors can continue following the path to the Bavarian Christmas Village. Inside the village, where baskets of Christmas tree ornaments are for sale, visitors feel as though they are inside a village in Germany in the Winter. Facades of homes with glowing candles in the windows are all around with a gazebo in the middle. There is even a Glockenspiel Tower which makes the village appear more authentic. Continue along to the Nutcracker's Castle with a running water moat and King and Queen's thrones to sit in and have a picture taken. Collectors of Department 56 Christmas Villages will be delighted to see displays of all the villages in another room and check out the merchandise for sale from that wonderful company. Displays are set up so collectors can see the buildings and figures they are missing to add to their collection.

Continuing along the path one will come to Santa's Toy Factory, where young ones can sometimes be fortunate enough to meet Santa and Mrs. Claus. And they can always watch the animated elves at work. In the center of this flagship store, one will find the Candle Mountain Lodge and the Kringle Market which houses many Christmas tree ornaments in various styles displayed on carts and in various smaller rooms along the side of the larger public area. Here you will find a snack bar from which to buy sandwiches and delectable fudge and bakery treats and have a seat at one of the many tables. For your musical enjoyment, you will be entertained here by an animated country band of musicians who put on a show every 15 minutes. It's a wonderful treat for the kids.

Continuing on tour, you won't want to miss the Candle Emporium where for a small fee, children and adults can dip their own candles. There is also a Yankee Candle Home Store in this area which has on display everything for the home including furniture, home accents, bath accessories, lamps, art, and kitchen supplies and delicious gourmet foods such as syrups and jellies to purchase and take home to enjoy. And there is always a reduced and markdown area to purchase discontinued candles, collectibles and seasonal items.

Yankee Candle Scents

With over 150 candle scents to choose from, you can always find a scent you enjoy at the Yankee Candle store. Some favorites for Fall might be Apple Cider, Apple Pie, Autumn Fruit, Harvest Welcome, Pumpkin Buttercream, Pumpkin Pie, or Spiced Pumpkin. If you are looking for Christmas holiday scents to add fragrance to your home or give as gifts, you might want to try scents such as Holiday Garland, Mistletoe, White Christmas, Christmas Eve, Christmas Wreath, Christmas Cookie, Holiday Sage, Home for the Holidays, or Pine Cone. With this many scents, you could spend half the day just smelling candles and trying to decide on family favorites to bring home.

The candles are available in 3 different jar sizes which include small, medium and large, tarts, tea lights, sampler votives, pillars, and tapers. There are also candle accessories available such as candle shades, holders, and car fresheners.

Candle Museum

For an authentic demonstration of colonial candle making, you won't want to miss the Yankee Candle Candle Making Museum where workers dressed in authentic costume use the 19th-century process of using beeswax or bayberry wax to make candles. These candles are also available for purchase. Museum entrance is free as is the candle making demonstration.

Chandler's Restaurant

For those interested in having more of a meal than a snack, there is also Chandler's Restaurant available in which to dine. This restaurant serves traditional New England fare at lunch. Lunch items offered include a Pilgrim sandwich which of course includes turkey, but also stuffing and cranberry sauce or you an choose other options such as beer battered fish and chips, home made meatloaf, and baked macaroni and cheese. The restaurant turns romantic during the evening complete with candlelight and delicious dinners which include such choices as Crispy Honey Orange Ginger Marinated Duck Breast, Radler's Roasted Half Chicken, and a Grilled Organic Salmon Filet. The restaurant has a children's menu available as well, and a wine list with plenty of variety.

A day spent at the Yankee Candle Flagship store will be one full of memories your family will not soon forget. Make sure to bring a camera to capture pictures of snow in summer, your children making candles, or sitting on the thrones of the king and queen. Or maybe you will want a snapshot of your child with Santa. Although it is an actual store, it is free to go to experience all the fun displays and enjoy the atmosphere even if no one buys a thing. It is 15 minutes away from the Magic Wings Butterfly Conservatory so if you're going to one of these attractions; it makes sense to stop in and enjoy the other.

If you aren't local to the New England area, there is a Yankee Candle Flagship Store in Williamsburg, Virginia as well.

Like most of America I love Yankee Candles but had no idea their flagship store was so interesting! I'm not that far away so it wouldn't be a big deal to get there.

You've described a trip through wonderland, and I can almost smell the candles! Thanks for the lovely tour.

Voted up, useful, awesome, and interesting. Shared with my followers so they can visit one day.

Most of the candles have a glass cover on them so the scents don't escape and lose their fragrance. The middle area where the cafe is smells yummy because of the food and baked goods sold there. Thanks for dropping in!

Thanks for the compliment! Yes, I agree that the scent of Yankee candles lasts so much longer than others. They are kind of on the expensive side though so I do try to buy them on sale whenever possible.

So glad you enjoyed this. I don't know much about Mike Kittredge, but he sounds like a wonderful guy full of entrepreneurial spirit. Maybe he can be the next subject of an upcoming hub of yours? I would love to know more about him and I am sure other readers would too, especially those from that general area that are familiar with Yankee candles! Thanks for stopping by and commenting and I hope you enjoy your trip to Mass. soon!

I love the Yankee Candle store. When I was a college student in NY, I would drive right by it when I went home to NY for a visit. I stopped a time or two. Thanks for the reminder. I think I see a Saturday in MA in my near future. Voted up and shared.

AHH! I love this place! When I saw your post about Magic WIngs last week, my first thought was - I really need to head up to S. Deerfield for some candles and butterflies! Glad to see you hilighting such a magical place, that I know holds many special childhood memories, for almost anyone who has been a kid in WMass since the factory opened! The fact that founder Mike Kittredge, is such a generous guy doesn't hurt either! There's a building named for him at our local community college - he made the largest alumni donation in the history of the MA Communtiy College system.

Karen - This is a favorite place of mine. My sister, Mom and friends make it a point to visit on a regular basis. The "make your own candle" section is wonderful. I am sooooo addicted to Yankee Candle and can spend endless hours roaming the aisles. We are a short ride and travel to Yankee Candle on a regular basis.

      Fantastic subject.
