The world’s 10 tiniest houses on tiny islands

Updated on November 13, 2014

I’ve always loved the idea of living on an island. Well, that’s what I’m doing in the past 7 years. :) Today I’d like to show you the world’s tiniest houses built on tiny islands. They are cute, they are unique and I’m pretty sure that you can relax and enjoy peace and quiet on these tiny islands.

Just room enough island

Tiny house nr. 1 – Just room enough island

This picturesque and charming little house is located on the Just room enough island. Funny but very appropriate name for this place. There’s only enough space to support a very small house and a patio. It is small but very compact. This house was purchased by the Sizeland family in the 1950’s because they wanted a place to get away from the city. It actually became a tourist magnet – so actually they couldn’t get away from everybody and everything. It’s a shame. The size of the island is 605 square-yard.

Many of these lovely tiny houses are built on the Thousand Islands which is actually the name of the archipelago of islands between Canada and the US in the Saint Lawrence River. You can find huge estates and castles are on these islands but I think these tiny houses are prettier and cuter than the bigger ones and they also have a special charm about them.

Tiny house nr.2 - Villa at Dunbar Rock

If you can afford it you can actually buy this wonderful place for (only!) $1,700,000 . Maybe, I am not far away from the truth if I can dare to say that this island and house is probably the most unique property in Honduras and in the Carribiean. Dunban Rock is a dive resort with a private coral reef. It’s amazing, isn’t it? According to the legends the famous pirate Blackbeard buried treasure on the island. Dolphins are visible from the balconies and from the deck. For your money you’ll get 6 bedrooms and bathrooms. It's paradise!

Tiny house nr. 3 – Pumpkin island

This island is part of Australia’s Keppel Island and it was bought by a South African couple. It’s a truly fantastic place to be. You can go fishing, you can swim her but it’s also a perfect tropical hideaway. The most amazing thing is that you can rent a cottage here and enjoy a peaceful holiday.

Tiny house nr. 4 – Les Cheneaux Islands

This a truly amazing property is on the Les Cheneaux Islands – just off the south coast of Cedarville, in Michigan. It also has a watchtower, isn’t it amazing? The area is very popular amongst boating, sailing and fishing enthusiasts. No wonder why! The scenery is very stunning as well.

Tiny house nr. 5 – Clingstone

This beautiful mansion is is just off the coast of Newport, Rhode Island. It has 23 rooms. Quite a spacious house on this tiny island. The current owner Henry Wood purchased this lovely mansion in 1961 and to be honest it really needed a restoration after 20 years of abandonment. He made a pretty good job as far as I can see!

Tiny house nr. 6 – Las Isletas in Nicaragua

This tiny island is part of the Las Isletas in Nicaragua on the Lake Cocibolca and a local fisherman owns this beautiful houe. It’s a stunning and relaxing place. I can imagine myself living there.:)

Tiny house nr. 7 – Towan Island

Towan Island is a Cornish landmark what you can only reach via a 70-ft-high, 100-ft-long footbridge. There’s a remarkable Edwardian mansion built on it in the 1930’s. It’s definitely a one of a kind island and mansion in the UK. You can watch surfers, the sunset or even stars from the terrace. I think the view is unbeatable and the place is for sale!

Tiny house nr. 8 – Utter Inn

If you love Scandinavia then head to Sweden to the Utter Inn Hotel You’ll definitely find peace and quite there. You can only reach this peace of paradise by an inflatable boat. Oh, I forgot to mention that you can rent out the place for a hefty price. It offers you basically an underwater accommodation. Imagine a place where you can see fishes from your bed. The tiny house is an art project of Mikael Genberg.

Tiny house nr. 9 – Taprobane Island

Have you ever imagined your honeymoon on a tiny island? If your answer is yes then keep on reading. This tiny and beautiful paradise is in Sri Lanka and yes, you can spend your honeymoon here with your loved one. You can access the island by wading through the surf on foot or on elephant or sedan chair. Wow, that’s what I call “honeymoon in style”. One of its guest said:"perfection in every art consists in the complete accomplishment of its purpose, and in Taprobane it is total". I agree!

Tiny house nr. 10 – Brandy Hill Island

Our last tiny house is in the U.S, in Connecticut. The one-acre island paradise is located only minutes away from Putnam – the antique capital of New England. You can imagine that the panoramic view of the lake is totally stunning. You can also swin on the private beach or just relax in the beautiful Mountain Chalet.

I love the idea of a tiny vacation home. It would be on a mountain lake just like the first one pictured here. I've seen tiny houses made of garden sheds that have been outfitted with storage and a nice deck. (Though some of these houses don't look that small).

These are all very lovely, I love the sea and I especially like #2 on your list. But I'm sorry, i need a little land, enough for a vegetable garden and a few chickens.

      Quite a nice hub.
