There Was No Sign

Updated on August 27, 2012

Do you consider yourself a person with common sense or are you the type that needs a sign up everywhere you go to stop you from doing stupid things as you go through life ?

Many people after doing some thing stupid will say " There was no sign "

Wouldn't common sense kick in at times in your life where there could be a dangerous situation ?

Even if your actions made it more dangerous for the next person that came along you would need to think about your actions .

I am writing this after having a conversations in the pool at Kimberleyland in kununurra last week.

beware of crocodiles

Hmmm wheres that lady with that yummy snack ?
Hmmm wheres that lady with that yummy snack ?

Sitting in the pool cooling down one afternoon I got chatting to a couple of ladies who were up visiting their husbands for a few days .

As we have a resident crocodile here named Rodney I asked them if they had seen the crocodiles here .

They said that they had seen them and fed them as they looked hungry and were looking for food .

I was horrified and asked what they had feed these crocodiles .

Their answer was sausage rolls .

When I told them we are not supposed to feed the crocodiles they said

" There was no sign telling us not to "

Fortunately they have left the area & we haven't seen crocodiles sniffing around for more sausage rolls yet.

Really do we need hundreds of signs to state the obvious wherever we go ????

Please beware of dangerous situations where there is no time to put up a sign as mentioned below.

Lets go look for some food in that tent " There is no sign saying we can't "
Lets go look for some food in that tent " There is no sign saying we can't "

It is obvious that getting too close is dangerous
It is obvious that getting too close is dangerous

I can see you people in the cities wondering what this has to do with you as you won't have people feeding crocodiles there . I sure hope not anyway !

However what about the lady who sued a major company as she burnt her leg putting her coffee between here legs while driving ?

THERE WAS NO SIGN to say the coffee was hot .

Unless we buy an iced coffee we expect our coffee to be hot so why do we need a sign to state the obvious .

It is sad that because many people don't use common sense companies have to put signs on products stating the obvious then the price has to go up accordingly.

Funny Warning Signs

Do not use microwave to dry your pets
Do not use microwave to dry your pets

Do you really need these signs ?

Children's Superman Costume
Wearing of this garment does not enable you to fly.

Air Conditioner
Caution: Avoid dropping air conditioners out of windows.

Auto-Shade Windshield Visor
Warning: Do not drive with sunshade in place. Remove from windshield before starting ignition. LOL!
Do not attempt to stop chain with hands.

Warning: Do not attempt to swallow

Caution: Contents may catch fire.

RCA Television Remote Control
Not Dishwasher Safe

Important Signs

Signs are needed in many cases such as "roadworks ahead " " road closed" "Stop" "Give way"

etc however there cannot be signs in every place you visit on your travels so at times you do need to use your common sense .

Maybe there is a sign needed and the local council haven't had a chance to put it up yet .

In the kimberleys we are coming up to the Wet season where roads can be closed very fast by rain so you could come across them before they have a chance to put a sign up.

Many of these will be too dangerous for you to cross so please be patient.

Please don't risk your life due to the lack of a sign .

beware of crocodiles sign

Please leave any funny warning signs here to share !

I enjoyed this hub, common sense is unfortunately not very common. I cannot believe the amount of crocodiles in that one part of the river, as I come from Southern Africa, and am used to seeing these almost prehistoric animals in vast numbers along the Zambesi, Kafue and other big rivers. Up, interesting and funny!

This is relevant to me on many levels. I had my own sign business for twenty years. I live in Florida with plenty of gators, wild boars, and bears. Yankees are clueless.

Once, at an adlolescent mental health facility where I worked, some rednecks let their pit bulls out of the back of their monster truck into the goat pen at our animal care project to teach a young dog how to kill. They got off in court . . . we didn't have a no trespassing sign. Of course, this is Florida, where it pays to get the right lawyer.

Wonderful hub! I honestly believe that if there were less signs, people would actually be forced to think for themselves!

It amazes me the stupidity of people, especially when travelling in foreign places. As soon as I started reading this have I instantly thought of the McDonald's lady, and then low and behold she was mentioned later lol.

      Thanks for SHARING.

Hi Annart ! So true -We were brought up using common sense however there are too many that just don't seem to have any these days -

In this age of litigation (which has spread rapidly to the UK from the States) it seems, as you say, so ridiculous that people don't use common sense. 'It won't happen to me' seems a common philosophy. If you think like that, it probably will! Totally agree with your sentiments. Good hub.

Good point made. There can't be a sign for everything. Sometimes common sense must be used. Sad when it is not used and disgusting when idiots win lawsuits because they did not kick it into gear. Example...the hot coffee lawsuit you cited. Voted this hub up, useful and funny because of the signs.

This was a fun hub to read and it seems like there are a lot of stupid people out there. We need a sign for them! Consequently we also have a stupid court system and stupid people sitting in those jury systems that let stupid people win when they sue a company after they do something stupid. Grrr. It never ends.

What ever happened to common sense. There are way too many signs as there is, don't you reckon? I know a lot of them are for insurance purposes and protection against idiots suing for their own stupidity. Loved those funny ones though. Great hub, thanks for the laugh. Voted up.
