Things to Do in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina
The Beauty of Myrtle Beach
Fun in the Carolinas
Beach: There is one thing that is unique about this beach as opposed to other beaches. An amazing fact is, that it has paved sidewalks all up and down the beach for sixteen miles. The beach itself is a beautiful sixty miles long. Other than the normal swimming and laying out in the sun, you can also go boating, snorkeling, scuba diving and even parasailing. Not to mention, volleyball, badminton and frisbee are a beach front constant at Myrtle Beach during the summer months. You never know when any kind of game might break out whether day or night. Bring your lotion, floats, inner tubes swimwear and sunglasses, chairs, food and music. Be prepared to have some fun in the sun. I can't wait to feel some warm sun. Surfs up! This is a great place to visit if you truly enjoy the beach and enjoy a lot of outdoor activities. There is always something going on. The beaches are warm and so are the people.
Harley Bike Week: This is a motorcycle rally that started in 1940 and has been going strong ever since. It is celebrated every Memorial Day Weekend each year. Thousands of Harleys and Harley fans make their way in to town for this big three day weekend. They have bike shows, music and food, crafts and toys at every turn it seems. Whether you like to ride or not it's pretty exciting to be on the scene. The ground literally shakes all day with the arrival and departure of the motorcycles in and out of The Harley-Davidson store. The bikes are absolutely amazing. The amount that most of them spend on the bike, is the amount that I could buy a new car with. They are great. Plus, at an event like this you talk to people from all over the place. You can easily meet fellow bikers and become friends for life.
Amusement & Water Park: Don't forget to ride the two hundred foot tall farris wheel (which looks terribly frightening to me). I have this fear that the one time I try to ride this, I will get stuck. I'm not talking about getting stuck to where I could not get off the ride itself, oh no, I get struck at the top with no possibility of getting down except for being rescued. The other recommended rides are one of the three roller coasters at the amusement park. The water park has over twenty (20) slides and a lazy river. The lazy river is just that. Also, shows and music concerts are performed on a daily basis during peak times during the summer. They also have concerts and all kinds of other events annually. I love to go to an outdoor concert any time it's possible and doing it in this atmosphere makes it all the better.
Award Winning Golf Courses: There are three eighteen hole golf courses in Myrtle Beach. They are Man O' War, Waterway Hills Golf Club and Myrtle Beach National (which hosts professional golf tournaments every year). Each golf course, has a very manicured grounds and the greens are like nothing that I have ever seen before. They have lakes at these courses and all three have restaurants, driving ranges and putting courses. They have a small bar located on the golf grounds as well. There's usually a girl who comes around on a golf cart selling drinks as well. Come on and bring your golfing friends.
Deep Sea Fishing: Located at Myrtle Beach, you might enjoy chartering a large boat with your family, friends, and even strangers. On any given day, you may catch octopus, swordfish, jellyfish or even a tire. If you think that you might get seasick, you may want to prepare by getting seasickness pills. These pills can be found as over the counter medications (they do not require a prescription).
On the fishing trip, the rod and reels, the bait are provided for you on these 3 to 4 hour fishing excursions. If you need help when reeling in a big catch the crew aboard the boat is always willing to lend a helping hand so, do not be afraid to call for help.
Outlet Malls & Souvenir Shops: The mall has over 200 stores and there are over 100 souvenir shops up and down the strip. There's sure to be something for everyone. Souvenirs are a great way to capture your time spent at the beach. Picture frames to put those beach shots in, are always popular. Professional photographers are available to make your family beach vacation memories. If you don't want to hire a photographer, you can still have your family dress alike and have someone take your picture for you. Of course standard clothing stores and retail stores are everywhere for the locals and tourists.
Restaurants & Night Life: When you want to hear good music, visit The House of Blues or Jimmy Buffet's Margaritaville. This particular restaurant of Buffet's is built upon a boat floating in the water. Less famous but, equally as fun is Dead Dog Saloon and The Market. Both of these clubs have very large dance floors and speakers located throughout the club. Three restaurants that I would recommend are: Carolina Forest, Garden City and Little River Fish Market. Many of the restaurants on the beach have outdoor eating areas which is very nice indeed. Great for those warm nights out on the beach with your loved one.
What a great place for some fun in the sun.
