Glendale, commonly referred to as the “Jewel City”, was incorporated into Los Angeles County on February 15, 1906. Glendale has an estimated population of 191,719 (according to the 2010 US census). This makes Glendale the 22nd largest city in the state of California. The name “Glendale” was chosen by the residents of the town in 1884. Glendale is home to a large armenian-american community. The economy of Glendale is dependant mainly on the service sector. Glendale offers a variety of attractions and activities to both tourists and locals alike. Here are the top 5 things to do in Glendale:

1. The Americana at Brand
The Americana was opened for visitors on May 2, 2008. The Americana houses over 75 stores, including retails shops, restaurants and a Pacific Cinemas Theater. The architecture of the Americana reflects its perfection, with a mirror-like Eiffel Tower statute and a beautiful waterworks in the center of the plaza. The Americana is the place to visit with the entire circle of friends and family to enjoy the vibrant lights and throbbing crowd.

2. Alex Theatre
The Alex Theatre is managed by the Glendale Arts. Built in 1925, the Alex Theatre has been playing classic motion pictures on its wide screen, which coupled with its excellent sound system has been magical. It has also attracted visitors to continuously fill the 1,381 seats for various dance recitals, concerts and live performances. A walk through the corridors is a treat for the eyes with beautiful paintings adorning the walls.


3. Jewel City Bowl
Jewel City Bowl is a hotspot for parties, get-togethers and casual outings. Visitors can choose amongst bowling, billiards and arcade games. Bowling leagues are held 7 days a week. The adjoining bar and restaurant serve exquisite speciality drinks and tasty food items to feed the thirst and hunger of all visitors.

4. Brand Park
Brand Park is well known not only for the beautiful nature it encompasses, but also because there is just so much to do. The park is always filled with crowds. It covers a modest 31 acre area. It features a children's play area, baseball field, a library, and tea houses. Towards the rear is a hiking trail which is open throughout the year for hikers looking for a nice hike. The satisfaction of completing the hike up to the top is ecstatic and makes the way back down a walk to remember. The Brand Park can also be used for get-togethers and beautiful family picnics.

5. Glendale Galleria
The Glendale Galleria is a very large mall, hosting over 200 stores. Some of the popular stores include Hugo Boss, Macy's, Nordstrom, Target, Swarovski, Godiva, Express, and many more. The Glendale Galleria also has a very large food court. There is even an In-N-Out burger restaurant right outside the mall. The mall stays open relatively late, as it closes at 9pm. Visitors not only go to the Glendale Galleria to shop, they go there to meet friends while having fun walking throughout the large mall.

      This looks great, and not that far from Fresno, only a few hours drive. (They like driving!) That bowling place looks fun, do you have to go as a medium/large group or can just a few people go, like 4 in my case?
