Huntington Beach, the official “Surf City U.S.A”, was incorporated into Orange County on February 17, 1909. The city of Huntington Beach has an estimated population of 189,707 residents (according to the 2010 US Census). This makes Huntington Beach the 23rd most populous city in California. With over 8 miles of uninterrupted beaches, Huntington Beach is scenically beautiful. Huntington Beach offers a variety of attractions and activities to both tourists and locals alike. Here are the top 5 things to do in Huntington Beach, California:

1. International Surfing Museum
Established in 1987 by Ann Beasley and Natalie Kotsch as a tribute to the Olympic athlete Duke Kahanamoku, who turned the sport of surfing into a mainstream activity, the International Surfing Museum is a non-profit entity that preserves the legacy of surfing. Classic surfboards and surfers have been glorified by means of exhibitions and films, which depict the art of surfing.

2. Bolsa Chica Ecological Reserve
Established in 1979, the Bolsa Chica Ecological Reserve is the effort of the California Department of Fish and Game to preserve the endangered and rare species found in the adjoining lands. It can be accessed from the entrance opposite the Bolsa Chica Beach. It is the home of exotic wildlife, including red-tailed hawk, California gnatcatcher, western diamondback and the grey smooth-hound shark. The reserve also offers hiking trails to challenge oneself while also allowing hikers to take truly splendid photographic moments.

3. Huntington Central Park
The Huntington Central Park is a place to go to escape the busy life and rejoice taking a stroll or sitting on the lush green grass. There are also local talent shows and performances conducted at the park, usually on the weekends. Whether it’s the thump of the music or the pure silence, the Central Park is the spot to let go of everything and spend some quality time with family and friends. In addition, the park offers visitors with local food stands, which is an added bonus, making it more convenient for families.

The coast and ecological reserve especially interest me. We're going to be in San Francisco this fall...who knows, maybe we'll have time to hop on over to Huntington. Thanks for the ideas!
