Things To Do in Madrid, Spain (TOP 5 LIST)

The city of Madrid, Spain has an estimated population of about 3,255,944 residents (according to the 2010 Spain Census). This makes it the most populated city in Spain. Madrid offers a variety of attractions and activities to both tourists and locals alike. Here are the top 5 things to do in Madrid, Spain:

1. Sorolla Museum
Sorolla Museum houses a great collection of exhibits representing Spanish post-impressionist and early 20th century art. The museum used to be the house and art studio of famous Valencian artist Joaquin Sorolla. The museum has been furnished with original furniture from the earlier times. It presents a very clear and interesting picture of the life of the past times. They also provide an audio guide that makes the information even clearer and more appealing.

2. Parque del Retiro
Parque del Retiro or Retiro Park is a beautiful park surrounding a lake. The park provides very peaceful atmosphere and you can enjoy spending some quality time along with family members. The paths are very suitable for walking, running or cycling. It is very enjoyable even to just sit at a shady area and watch the people around who are engaged in various activities. The lake also offers paddle boating. The greenery all around the park creates a very pleasant view.

3. Edificio de Correos
The architectural beauty of Edificio de Correos is exceptional. The building has been designed with great care. The outside as well as the inside of the building is worth watching. The views from the top of the building are simply great. The staff is very helpful and the building has been maintained very nicely. Only a few people are allowed to the roof at a time to enable them to enjoy the beautiful views nicely despite that the space at the roof is limited. The building also houses a nice restaurant and a wonderful bar.

4. Prado Museum
Prado Museum is one of the museums having the largest art collection in the world. Each of the works of art displayed here presents apt information regarding the concerned artist and his works. The number of exhibits present at the museum is enough to satisfy any lover of art. The museum is also spacious enough to enable you to enjoy the exhibits nicely without feeling any rush because from other visitors. They also offer tours to help get a more thorough understanding of the art.

5. Royal Palace of Spain
Royal Palace of Spain is a must-see attraction for its historical significance as well as its architectural value. I would recommend devoting almost an entire day for the Royal Palace. The rooms are simply beautiful, both for architecture and furnishing. There is so much to see. You also will obtain valuable knowledge about one of the most important iconic landmarks in Madrid.

Enjoy Madrid!

So this is Madrid, Spain. I wonder what is something about Spain that no matter how they seemed similar to other wonderful places, it brings a special touch to my heart. The Royal Palace must be fabulous for you to recommend devoting almost an entire day! It's a challenge then to learn if Madrid would be of any difference to the other most populous cities. Another thank you, Tony.:=)

Enjoyed reading your hub and seeing the photos. We loved the gardens, too. Getting out of the city was something else! We followed the map (so we thought) and an hour later arrived back where we had started! Still enjoyed the city.

Someday, I would like to visit Spain. The art at the Prado sounds so inviting. A museum full of the masters has to be emotional. The Royal Palace with its history of Spanish royalty would be a thrill. Thanks for a clear list of what to see in Madrid. Liked the videos!
