Things to do in Seville, Spain (TOP 5 LIST)

The city of Seville, Spain has an estimated population of about 703,206 residents (according to the 2010 Spain Census). This makes it the 4th most populated city in Spain. Seville offers a variety of attractions and activities to both tourists and locals alike. Here are the top 5 things to do in Seville, Spain:

1. Alcazar
Alcazar is a very inspirational set of buildings which represents great examples of Spanish Christian architecture. The unique combination of different architectural styles creates a unique and inspiring effect. They offer audio tours of the buildings, which provide detailed information since the palace also has historical significance. The environment at Alcazar is also very peaceful because there are very beautiful gardens at the site as well.

2. Plaza de Espana
Plaza de Espana was designed by Anibal Gonzalez. It was developed for the Latin American Expo of 1929. It includes two 80 meter high towers and some brightly tiled sections displaying information about the city. Although the Plaza has been renovated lately, the courtyards, pools, tiles, mosaics and arches all display the history of this amazing city and are extremely beautiful.

3. Maria Luisa Park
Maria Luisa Park is the largest park in Seville. The park has been named after Maria Luisa Fernanda, the younger sister of Queen Isabella II. The famous landscape architect Nicolas Forestier redesigned the park in 1929. It lies just adjacent to Plaza Espana. The park has an ample amount of trees and flowers, which makes it beautifully green. The atmosphere at Maria Luisa Park is very peaceful and quiet. The park offers a great setting to sit and relax in shade while watching people passing by. It is very suitable for a time out along with family members.

4. Camera Obscura
The Camera Obscura offers one of the most unique experiences in Seville. It is a very unique camera located on the top of an extremely high tower. The camera enables you to get a glimpse and tour the entire city without going anywhere. The camera can focus on any part of the city and can show every detail. The balcony of the tower also presents a great view of the city. It is truly quite an interesting experience to first see the city through the camera in great detail and then see the same views with naked eyes from the balcony. The guides are very friendly and clarify very nicely how the camera works.

5. Museum of Fine Arts
The Museum of Fine Arts was established in 1839. The museum houses a number of works dating from the medieval times till the early parts of 20th century. The highlight of the museum is the paintings of 17th century Spanish artists since it is remembered as the Golden Age of Sevillian painting. However, paintings from other periods displayed at the museum are also very attractive. The Museum of Fine Arts is a highly recommended attraction to visit for anyone traveling to Seville.

Beautiful pictures, and very informative. However, you missed one of the best things to do while in Spain (besides drink wine) -- watch authentic flamenco! When I visited Sevilla, I didn't even know what flamenco was. Now that I'm a novice flamenca, I want to go back! Nonetheless, great writing -- thanks for sharing. Voted up.

I spent a Christmas once in Seville - it's one of those cities that makes an ideal winter break. I remember trying to find a restaurant on Christmas Eve - they were all either fully booked or closed for the night, so we ended up in a Chinese place full of other bemused tourists! But I love that I'll never forget that evening. :)
