Updated on June 11, 2010

Thousand Island Lake

Qiandaohu

Qiandaohu is a man made lake not far from Hangzhou in the Zhejiang Province of China. It was created in 1959 after the great cultural revolution, and was one of the big new undertakings by the new government at the time.

A reservoir was built, and several ancient cities were buried beneath the waters. Now it has become a tourist spot as the newly cashed up Chinese discover the excitement of travel. This lake area is a popular destination and huge holiday resorts are being built around the lake.
