Niks is a travel bird, who has the ambition to explore the globe. He shares a beautiful experience of visiting the Mount Titlis.

Switzerland

Switzerland is indeed a heaven on Earth. It's a world-class dream destination for travel enthusiasts across the globe. It's the ideal place for honeymoon couples. As we entered Switzerland, I was thrilled by the sight of the Alps covered with snow. After visiting some sensational sights like the Rhine falls, The Lion Monument, Lucerne city and the cruise at the Lake Lucerne, we were heading towards the most-awaited and thrilling journey towards the base of Mount Titlis. Switzerland's beauty is portrayed in many Indian films. This beauty touched the heart of every Indian through the Hit films of Bollywood that have been shot at this chilling location.

The currency of Switzerland is Swiss Franc, abbreviation - CHF. Euros are accepted in some places but you will get the change in CHF.

Heavenly Divine Titlis

From Lucerne city, you can board a train that takes you to Engelberg.
Engelberg is a heavenly delightful place surrounded by the Alps. We had a stay in a hotel at Engelberg.
I loved the astounding view of the Alps through the windows of my hotel room. I became a big fan of Engelberg as everything about this place is so admiring. Indeed, Nature at its best. There's a walking distance of around 10 to 15 minutes from the Engelberg railway station to the Titlis valley station. Here starts the fun journey. Now you have to get into an 8 seater cable car that takes you up the mountain. As we entered the car, I saw the alpine trees passing downwards. The scene changed from green to white as we reached the snow-clad region of the mountain. Now it was like all the green meadows were hiding beneath the clouds and all the snow-clad part of the mountain was rising through the clouds. The cable car arrived at the mid-station called "Trubsee" and we entered into a revolving cable car which is called The TITLIS ROTAIR, that took us to the top of Titlis. It takes you about 3,020 meters above sea-level!
What an infrastructure at such a great altitude! By reaching the top I was stunned by the beauty of snow-covered mountain peaks surrounded by the dense clouds. It was a dream come true moment to see the snowfall. I could see the snowflakes falling on my jacket. It reminded me of the movie "Frozen"

How to get there

Bern Airport - Lucerne - Engelberg
Zurich Airport - Lucerne - Engelberg

The best mode of transport from Zurich to Engelberg is Train. You have to change the train at Lucerne and then head towards Engelberg. You can also consider a bus or car.

You can get a Train from Bern to Engelberg. The journey includes one train change. However, if you want to drive then it will be the cheaper and quickest way to get to Engelberg.

Time zones

If you are from Mumbai, set your watch about 3 to 3.5 hours backward as per the Swiss time.
If you are from NewYork, set your watch about 6 hours ahead as per the Swiss time.

This doesn't matter when you are at Titlis because nature's magic makes you forget the time, day and date.

Climate

Titlis has snow throughout the whole year. At such a high altitude you must wear heavy jackets as well as thermal wear. The temperature rarely rises more than 3 degrees. Most of the time it is below zero degrees.

Ice Grotto

After clicking pictures of the snow-filled mesmerizing heaven, we started walking towards the Ice Grotto. Ice Grotto is a long walk inside the Glacier caves. Its quite chilling inside. The surface is slippery. so it is recommended to hold the railings while walking. walking through these blue caves with the lights was a divine experience. I got a clear idea about how the igloos looked from inside.

Titlis Cliff Walk

We were coming closer to yet another thrilling experience, "Titlis Cliff Walk". It's the highest suspension bridge in Europe! It's about 100 meters long and one meter wide. Crossing this bridge is not as easy as the other activities on Titlis. The depths below this bridge are amazeballs. Get an amazing view of the mountains full of snow as you walk 3041 meters above the sea level.

Ice Flyer

Next was the "Ice Flyer". Ice Flyer is a chairlift that takes you to the glacier park. I was stunned by the view of the glaciers when I looked down. This chair was 3000 meters above the sea level and below me, was the world dressed in clouds and snow, as if it's the "Ice Age" era. The flyer is closed if the climate gets unfavorable for it to operate or when the maintenance work of the cableways is going on. I was lucky. A few members of our group were hesitating to go at first but as they saw our faces lightened up by the sight of snow they decided to go. The Ice Flyer is a very safe and secure ride. It was eye-catching, heart-pounding, breath taking and mind-blowing ride.

Glacier Park

We arrived at the most dynamic part of the Titlis - The Glacier Park. It offers all types of snow activities depending upon the weather conditions. Summertime is the best one. Adventure loving beings love this place.
There is a wide range of snow gliding activities. Snowtubing is a fun-filled recreation. You have to sit on a rubber tube that slides you down the slope full of snow. The tube rotates while sliding down. This exciting ride bounces at the bumps, it twirls but it is safe just like all the other rides on Titlis.

Restaurants and Bar:

Titlis offers a variety of food and drinks. Providing all kinds of facilities at such a high altitude is quite striking. I must say, "Indeed a marvelous creation". After we enjoyed the rides we went to the Movenpick ice cream bar. Having ice - cream at a height more than 3000 meters, another great experience! There were ice creams of different flavors. We had our meal at Trubsee - the midway station of the cable cars. The meal was delicious. The cherry on the cake at Titlis is that You get a splendid view of the mountains while you eat food at restaurants or bars.

Here are some restaurants and bars at Titlis and Trubsee :

Titlis -
*Titlis Panorama Restaurant
*Self- Service Panorama Restaurant
*Movenpick Ice Cream Bar
*Titlis Snack Bar

Trubsee -
*Trubsee Bar and Lounge
*Trubsee Self - Service
*Lago Torbido

Plus, there are many restaurants and bars at Engelberg which offers good food.

Other Swiss Attractions:

Here are some of the tourist destinations in Switzerland that I visited:

1`Jungfrajoch - Jungfraujoch, Top of Europe is the Highest Railway Station in Europe. The Ice Palace at the top of the Europe is wonderful. This place is as beautiful as Mt.Titlis. It's about 3,466 meters above sea level!

2`Rhine falls - The Largest waterfall in Europe. Very Spectacular!

3` Chapel Bridge - It is located in Lucerne City. This is a covered wooden pedestrian Bridge built in the medieval era and was rebuilt in 1993.

4`The Lion Monument - This monument is carved on solid rock. This is the popular and largely visited place.

5` Trummelbach falls - Look at the glacier waterfalls from Inside of the mountains.

6` Lucerne City - This is a happening city with musicians playing music on the crowded streets. This is one of the places where you can buy swiss watches, knives, and chocolates.
