Apart from its bountiful natural beauty, rich flora and fauna, India has a rich amalgamation of various cultures and heritage; making it one of the most favored holiday destinations among world travelers. Inspite of the economic slowdown worldwide, in 2012 India earned 18 billion dollars from more than 7 million foreign visitors. Till November, 2013 India's FEE(Foreign Exchange Earning) increased by around 7.3% if compared to November, 2012. Despite this influx of foreign visitors every year, very few regard India as an ideal place for romantic getaways and honeymoon destination because of its supposedly conservative environment. Nevertheless, India can boast of some really gorgeous and stunning locales that can make it one of the most sought-after Romantic Holiday Destinations of the world.
What does two people in love want from a perfect romantic vacation they desire to spend with each other? Coziness, solitude, peace, serenity and of course a lot of passion. They want a perfect vacation that will leave them speechless and craving for more. There are many such romantic getaways in India. Barring a few, I have traveled to almost all of them with my husband. Here I will discuss my top 5 favorite romantic tourist destinations in India that should never be given a miss.
The very name Agra is associated with Taj Mahal, the greatest symbol of love of a husband for his wife on Earth. Agra has a topmost priority in the itinerary of a foreign visitor to India. The Taj Mahal, which is among the Seven Wonders of the World is an architectural marvel in itself. This white marble mausoleum was built by the Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan for his deceased wife Mumtaz Mahal. It took nearly 22 years to complete this exquisite piece of architecture and once complete, it was famous for its unparalleled beauty. Till date people flock from near and far to witness its grandeur, to witness an example of the power of love that knew no limits. It is said that nothing can be more beautiful than the radiating white beauty of Taj Mahal on a moonlit night.
Apart from Taj Mahal, Agra boasts of other brilliant specimens of architecture like Agra Fort, Fahtehpur Sikri and many other important architectural splendor of the Mughal period. For those who are truly, deeply and madly in love with each other, a visit to Agra is must.
