Ohio Street Beach
If you want to laid back and get some sun or built a sandcastle this would be the perfect stop. Ohio Street Beach is near the Navy Pier and it has a lot to offer it's beach goers like food vendors, chair & umbrella rentals, and you'll be able to swim in the open-water when the life-guards are presently station.
North Avenue Beach
This beach is the high-volume traffic waterfront that the city offers for it's visitors and locals, who generally bring their families to enjoy the water and sand. North Avenue Beach is adjacent to the Lincoln Park Zoo(free admission), which is easy to walk over the bridge and you're there. You can park your car or motorcycle at the zoo for a small price and then go to the beach, if you like. The beach has a Beach House which offers restrooms and outdoor showers. The beach also has bar & grill cafes that sit in multiply sides of the waterfront. The prime amenities included in this beach is a bike, running, & skating path. If you come down in the month of August you'd be able to see the free Chicago Air & Water Show. They also have enormous amounts of volleyball and weightlifting competitions you could watch for a small price.
Oak Street Beach
The Oak Street Beach is on the beaten path to the Magnificent Mile and this beach is for anyone, who loves to play volleyball because they have nets planted everywhere. It's a great place to see multiply tournaments or events.

If you want to relax at the Montrose Beach than come down and see the Uptown lakefront. This beach has a friendly-vibe most of the locals and visitors come here to fish on the pier and it offers the Montrose Harbor they have a small shop where you could buy bait. If that's not your cup of tea than get your Frisbee or Balls and have fun throwing it at each other or have a picnic, built a small campfire, or just swim around in the open water. Doing one of these things could make it a fun beach day.
31st Street Beach
The 31st Street Beach offers playgrounds, fishing pier, skate park, and harbor. If you want to bring your friends or family this might be a great beach to take them. A park is nearby and it's called, Burnham Park, if you want to take the kids or just stroll around a bit.
