Top Five Places to visit in Mumbai

The most populated city in India is Mumbai. It is also the commercial and financial capital of India and it’s a home to Bollywood. With the current modern and progressive the culture and history have gone back at least two thousand years. With such a big city its not easy to navigate yourself to eat in the best restaurant and what to see. Invest your time and see many places and areas in Mumbai, here is a list of top 5 places to visit in Mumbai. They are common places an not all the famous but you will definitely agree, they are worth the time to see.



Gateway of India

One of the most illustrious monuments in Mumbai, and its one of the top places to visit in Mumbai. It was started in 1915 and completed in 1924. It was built to welcome King George V and soon became the official place for governors in India. It's one of the popular tourist spots and looks alluring both during the day and in the evening. You can also visit or just see the Taj hotel from there which is at a walking distance from the Gateway.


Elephant caves

These are ancient caves carved out in basalt rocks, speaks about the history. It has been designed as a UNESCO World heritage site after its renovation in the 1970’s. This place is visited by millions of tourists every year. The cave has many depictions and stories and it's divided into two groups – five for Hindu and two for Buddist.


3.Colaba causeway

Colaba causeway is a street that combines the traditional Indian market and art culture. It lives up to its reputation if the “culture square” of the city by providing various cultural experiences in one place. It’s a home to museums, art galleries, high end retail stores, a church, small shops and stalls among other attractions. You can see many eateries and roadside restaurants which line the street. The one that is very famous is the Cafe Mondegar with juke box and all. You can buy various things like antique jewelry, cosmetics, books, clothes and more.


4. Flora Fountain

Built in 1864 and was named after the Roman Goddess Flora. Located in the middle of a park and it’s a place that you have been visited while touring to Mumbai. Visit here on evening to see its light effects.


5.NCPA auditorium

Looking for good catch play? Then this is the right place for you. Chill out your tour by watching large scale events like watching opera, dance programs, orchestral concerts, ballet and more. The auditorium has bagged its name for itself by preserving and promoting India’s cultural and rich art traditions, since its inception in 1969. You can catch some cultural events at any time as it boasts more than 500 events annually.


6.Juhu beach

The more affluent areas in Mumbai, it’s an open place that offers the visitors a beautiful view of the sea. And it's one of the place that offers good food too, especially if you look for Italian food. There are various cafe and one that is very popular is the safe Mocha. Try “death by chocolate” dessert here, one of my favorites. Visit during the day if you want to avoid the crowd, as evenings and weekends are crowing.

      xavierdhs07, Good old days! I used to come to Mumbai quite often. Have visited most of these spots except NCPA auditorium. Thanks for sharing and placing me in flashback. Useful.
