Tourist Spots in the Philippines

Updated on October 1, 2010

Best Spots in My Country

For most of my life, I have lived in the Philippines. I was born in Batangas, a small town in Southern Tagalog. It's in Luzon which is one of the three biggest islands in the country. I have traveled to some of the regions close to my home but I could never say that I have really seen Philppines' true beauty.

Come to think of it, It's not that surprising to be a tourist in your own country, right? For instance, I now live in Bangkok and I have been to places where some of my Thai friends haven't been to. Anyway, of the thousands of islands and tourist destinations in the Philippines, I have only been to a handful of them.

Let's see...

Metro Manila. This busy metro is very near to my heart. Manila has been my second home when I was sent off to college in one of the many universities here. This is one of the many tourist spots in the Philippines.

I've done my own shopping spree and dining here with my friends. Those welly really great times! Shopping at Greenhills and Tutuban are all so different when compared to places like Glorietta and Greenbelt. When you visit these places, you'll know what I mean. :)

Boracay Island. I have visited this place twice. And both were great experiences. My friends enjoyed the beach, the sand and the food! The island is segregated into 3 different regions. There's a place for everyone - family vacationers, foreigners and locals, lovers, celebrities, etc. If you're looking for fine sandy beaches, this is one of the famous go-to places in the Western Visayas region, for both locals and foreigners.

Siargao Island. Alright, I haven't been here yet. You will see several surfing spots in this region. Some claim that it's the Surfing Capital of the country. Boasting with big waves, this island in Siargao del Norte is one of the nation's jeweled vacation spots.

Although, I am not a surfer I would like to try and have my picture taken "as if" surfing along the waves in one of its beaches.

Bohol Springs and Beaches. I haven't been to Bohol, as well. I have gone to Cebu though which is one of the neighboring isles of Bohol. By Philippine Airlines or Cebu Pacific, I could have already traveled to Bohol when I visited Cebu. Next time, perhaps.

Bohol is one of the places I'd like to visit some time. I would love to see its famous hills and crystal springs and beautiful beaches.

Puerto Galera. Gladly, I live in Southern Tagalog (Luzon Region) where Puerto Galera is really near. From my hometown, I can take a 45-min boat trip going to this island. Here, I mostly enjoyed the beach and the food. There are several water-sport activities but being a local that I am, I don't really go for the rides. I enjoy a lazy afternoon by the beach, instead.

Someday, I would like to visit Siargao, Bohol and other tourist spots in my country. Someday, I will tour my country, region by region, isle by isle.

Until then.
