Townsville Attractions - Lagoon and Water Park, Queensland Australia

Townsville Lagoon and Water Playground

Townsville is also well known for its outstanding childrens water playground and safe swimming lagoon. As you can imagine the water playground is a popular place in summer and many of Townsville's Motels are situated close by on The Strand, so that holiday makers have easy access to the free amenities. It is a large complex with areas for children of all ages to play and cool down in the water fountains, cascades and shallow pools.

Further along The Strand you will find the beautiful Lagoon precinct with a great cafe opposite, called Odyssey. The Lagoon is a safe swimming area with bbqs, picnic tables and fishing spots around the perimeter. Check out the photo below of the Kiwi guy catching fish with a throw net near the Lagoon!

North Queensland Has Much To Offer Visitors

North Queenslands Tropical Splendour

Townsville is a beautiful city in North Queensland, approximately 1350 klms North of Brisbane, the capital of Queensland. It is situated in the tropics and has a climate that you would expect from tropical regions. The locals say "you get used to it" but I have my doubts.

Nonetheless we loved our time in Townsville immensely and thoroughly enjoyed the Heritage walks around the city. There is a rich heritage in Townsville's buildings dating back to the 1800's and the city even boasts the very first kit home built in Australia in the 1930s.

There are 3 Heritage walks to choose from and all three are highly recommended. Simply pick up the relevant brochures from any Visitor Information Centre (there's one in the Flinders St Mall, in the CBD) and follow the directions. The brochures also include information about each property and the history of the area.

I'm so glad you found my hub on Townsville LadyLyell and enjoyed the memories. Too bad you won't have time for a quick visit.

This was our first visit to Townsville and we truly loved exploring the city and surrounds.

We have family who live in Cairns, so I'm hoping we get back up that way with the caravan again before too long. It is a long drive from Newcastle though, as you know!

      Thanks for your comment!

      MEMORIES!!!

When I was a newly wed my husband and I made the LONG journey from Sydney to Townsville (by coach) where he sort employment for three months because we loved it so much there. Sadly we had to return to his home country to live but it was our first choice to settle in Townsville.

That was in 1973 and now I see how the town has grown and so beautiful at that.

Your article makes me want to return for one more quick see but that's not possible as we are departing Aust soon.

Thank you for the photos and update!

Thanks for liking my work LydieRVgirl, I do really enjoy writing, so I am having a ball here on hub pages! The flattop would definitely be something to write about if I ever get one. I'll keep it in mind my friend but I don't think it's going to happen any time soon :) Thanks for dropping by and leaving me a note.

susan54 your enthusiasm for flattops is truly amazing!!! I do hugely admire you for your courage to take the step and get your own flattop at 50 and I loved your hub and before and after pics, but I'm thinking it is just a little bit too big of a step for me right now, so it looks like you wont be having a horseshoe flattop after-all my friend.

Flattop hair cuts are very rare in Australia, in fact I don't think I have ever seen one, not even in the armed forces, they just cut it short all over.

But you have actually given me an idea that might be of interest to the the Cancer Council of Australia. They are always trying to raise more money for cancer research and this could be a unique way to raise money through donations if people get a flattop haircut.

I'm going to send them an email to suggest it, and I'll let you know what they say. Fingers crossed they like the idea... then I really will have to get one! Haha!

Thanks again for your great comments, and voting up. You rock!

aboutaustralia, Thank you! Vote up! I will look your book up also. I got my flattop from another women we met RV-ing She and her husband have very short flattops and so does my husband I was the only one with hair. Mary my new RV friend said it time to buzz it all off,I had a bobcut. So, she got out her clippers and gave me my flattop over a year ago and I still have it,now Its ever shorter than the picture. 1/2" on top and shave with no guard on the clippers side and back. I love it so much,I will never have any other haircut style ever again, flattop forever!!! for me. Me and Mary look like twins out shopping, everyone we meet caravanning loves it,we got 4 other women to get one at camp this year. Thanks Bye for now

Hi kellymom, thanks for your kind words. I love that you want to come to Australia one day! I have just finished an ebook titled 'Work In Australia - Follow The Harvest Trail' and I'm just waiting for it to be published on a U.S. website: http://www.FTRVing.com It's my first ebook so I'm very excited! (I'll check out Susan54's flattop too, thanks)

Hi LydieRVgirl, Glad you are enjoying my hubs. I agree a flattop would be great for the RVing lifestyle and my hair naturally stands on end when its short. Gotta give it a bit more thought, or should I just go for it? Haha!

Just read your hub on Cairns Northern Beaches. Beautiful part of the world for sure! I have family living at Trinity Beach and was visiting them last week. I'll choose winter next time though I think, it's quite hot and humid right now and I'm not really used to it! Haha!
