Townsville Attractions - Lagoon and Water Park, Queensland Australia
Townsville Lagoon and Water Playground
Townsville is also well known for its outstanding childrens water playground and safe swimming lagoon. As you can imagine the water playground is a popular place in summer and many of Townsville's Motels are situated close by on The Strand, so that holiday makers have easy access to the free amenities. It is a large complex with areas for children of all ages to play and cool down in the water fountains, cascades and shallow pools.
Further along The Strand you will find the beautiful Lagoon precinct with a great cafe opposite, called Odyssey. The Lagoon is a safe swimming area with bbqs, picnic tables and fishing spots around the perimeter. Check out the photo below of the Kiwi guy catching fish with a throw net near the Lagoon!
North Queensland Has Much To Offer Visitors
North Queenslands Tropical Splendour
Townsville is a beautiful city in North Queensland, approximately 1350 klms North of Brisbane, the capital of Queensland. It is situated in the tropics and has a climate that you would expect from tropical regions. The locals say "you get used to it" but I have my doubts.
Nonetheless we loved our time in Townsville immensely and thoroughly enjoyed the Heritage walks around the city. There is a rich heritage in Townsville's buildings dating back to the 1800's and the city even boasts the very first kit home built in Australia in the 1930s.
There are 3 Heritage walks to choose from and all three are highly recommended. Simply pick up the relevant brochures from any Visitor Information Centre (there's one in the Flinders St Mall, in the CBD) and follow the directions. The brochures also include information about each property and the history of the area.
