Transportation Information for Caye Caulker, Belize
If you are planning a trip to Caye Caulker, Belize I recently visited and have listed the transportation options for getting to the Island and traveling within the Island systems. Also, I have listed options for getting around while you visit Caye Caulker. See links to official service sites and listed cost of each service.
Water Taxi or Plane to Caye Caulker
You can get to Caye Caulker by Water Taxi or by Plane with Maya Island Air for adults USD $60-100 round-trip depending on the time and day and flight. Children cost roughly the same amount round-trip. These prices are form the Belize International Airport to the Caye Caulker air strip. Other major airlines do not service this route and you have to go with a local airline. Flight time is about 15 minutes and the planes are fairly small. You can take these smaller airlines to Caye Caulker from other Islands such as San Pedro. Flight time and information are provided at the official site and I posted links to the right.
The most popular and cheaper option is to take a water taxi from Belize City to Caye Caulker with wither Caye Caulker Water Taxi or San Pedro Express services. To get to the water taxi terminal you take a cab from the airport which costs about $25 USD flat rate per car/per family. The ticket to get the Caye Caulker is $10 USD per person and takes 45 minutes. Pay for these with either USD or Belize cash.
All official taxis have a green license plate.
Water Taxi Tickets and Schedules
There are no cars on Caye Caulker except for a couple used for local business purposes. The main vehicle is a golf cart. You can take a gold cart taxi around the island for $2.50 USD per person and they are easy to spot. All official taxis in Belize have a green license plate.
If you wish to rent a golf cart for the week you can find rental locations on the island. Be prepared to pay $60-70 USD a day for rentals of a golf cart.
Bikes and Walking
The locals use bikes as the primary form of transportation and you can rent bikes on the island. Some rental condos come with bikes for private use. I stayed at the Hummingbird Hideaway rental and the owner provided bikes for us. It is fairly cheap to rent them at $7-8 USD per day. The weather is so hot and humid that you may prefer a bike to walking. The mosquitoes on the island are a problem for guests and you will enjoy the speed of the bike and the small breeze.
You can walk anywhere on the island in about 15 minutes. Wear bug spray at all times if you do not want to get bit by mosquitoes because Belize is listed as a country with a Malaria warning for travelers.

Ah, Belize. A request came up for me to answer the question: should I consider moving to Belize? and my first thought was my buddy Gabe, who had spent several weeks down there as part of a medical mission...
