Travel to Vietnam: 3 Most-Wanted Routes for Backpacking

Updated on March 5, 2016

A good advice is you should taste your trips by bikes that can be rented easily from the local households or by bicycles if you would like to challenge your endurance. Below are some suggestions for gorgeous routes for foreigners who wish to try this experience when choosing Vietnam as a stop for their vacation.

1. Northern West region

This is one of the most beautiful regions in Vietnam where hundreds of travelling photographers and reporters select for their glamorous shoots. This route crosses Yen Bai, Lao Cai and Ha Giang province. Each province will give you their own exclusively charming treat. If you visit this region in August or September, your eyes will be overwhelmed with the immense glowing rice ladder fields. It is extremely amazing to travel to Ha Giang in October when buckwheat is blossomed in every corner of this mountainous area.

Buckwheat is the soul of this Northern peak land. This gentle flower is attached to daily life of local citizens, not only coloring their life, but also the unique ingredient for a typical type of cake that you should try as you visit this land. One more thing you can not miss to see is Ma Phi Leng peak which is 1,200 m height above the sea level, squeezing Nho Que river with aquamarine water gently flowing for years. People here are almost farmers living harmoniously with nature, growing corns on cliffs and raising animals and poultry for food. Once you have been here, all of hustle and bustle of busy life are all left behind.

2. Northern Central Region

This route crosses Ninh Binh, Nghe An, Dong Hoi, Hue, Hoi An, Da Nang. Ninh Binh is famous for Trang An where you travel on a little boat ridden by local citizens through a number of caves over a gentle river that you can see to the bottom due to its pure water.

Three provinces - Hue, Hoi An, Da Nang - are the spotlight of this route. Hue is an ancient city where you would contemplate sophisticated temples of Nguyen dynasty. On the contrary, Da Nang, 50 kms far from Hue, is a dynamic city where mountains and seas intersect to create a poetic harmonious life with fresh air, clean environment and gorgeous scenes. Beaches in Da Nang are ranked among the most beautiful beaches in the world with the coastline running smoothly along the border of the city. Another attraction is Hoi An- a peaceful land where small alleys, flowers, ever single corners and lanterns all carry rhyme, like a little poem, saying to visitors that “you are totally safe here, silent but serene”.

3. Western Southern region

This route crosses the following provinces: Sai Gon (Ho Chi Minh city) - An Giang - Can Tho - Ca Mau. This region is famous for its dense waterway systems where you can experience the bustling scene of floating market in Can Tho. Cai Rang floating market is the biggest market in the province selling vivid kinds of fruit grown by local farmers.

Chau Doc, An Giang province is the teritory of productive fruit gardens where tourists are overwhelmed by colorful and tasty fruits such as mango, coconut, durian, avocado, etc. Being here, you may be impressed by local citizens who are loud, simple in lifetyle but very friendly and sincere. Living with them, you can join their daily activities like catching fish in the natural ponds, harvesting coconuts and trying your carefulness by crossing “Cau Khi”, a typical type of bridge in this region.
