Deciding to travel abroad can be scary, costly, and just an out right no for some people. After my experience traveling to France at 18 I wanted to tell others about it. I’m really happy that I went through with it. Traveling has shown me what i'm capable of overcoming. It has also helped me break out of my comfort zone. Here are the benefits of taking a step outside your home country.

Here are the 4 reasons why you should travel internationally.

1 Broaden your horizons

2 Breaking the routine

3 Food

4 Memories

1. Broaden your horizons

You can strengthen your personal development. Allow yourself a chance at becoming more open minded and well rounded. Learning about other cultures can help with obtaining a better understanding of the world and yourself. Talk about your experience with other travelers or people interesed in traveling.

On my trip to France, I was in an Icelandic airport Reykjavik during the layover. The layover gave me time to experience a bit of Iceland.

I went to Paris and Mulhouse. I could notice many differences between a large city like Paris, and a small one Mulhouse. For me, there was nothing like experiencing a different culture along with the people. If you are lost or having trouble with the local languages making friends with the locals could become very useful. Even in the U.S people have varying dialects from state to state. It would be a great idea to plan your trip and possible activities before hand. Finding activities to do during your trip such as site seeing are usually the most memorable moments.

The end result of buying material items is not comparable to experiences. Change your perpective of a culture or city. You might be surprised to find that a place is nothing like what you expected it to be.

Taking yourself somewhere isn't just about going there, it’s about where that place takes you. Learn how the outside world relates to the world you already know. I believe everyone should experience traveling abroad at least once in their lives.

2 Breaking the routine

If you are someone who has never traveled abroad or has but needs a good break, taking a vacation far away from home is a great way to get away from your daily routine. A repetative daily routine can become draining. It sure helped me when I did it at 18. I was able to get over my fear of social anxiety and being alone at the same time. It really showed me how much I had learned from just one trip outside the country.

Allow yourself to take a step outside the box if you’ve never done it before. Don't let others stop you if it’s something you really want to do. That's not just with traveling but life in general. This life is yours and only yours. Come to terms with who you truly are let your experiences help you understand yourself more outside of your usual environment. Don’t let anyone stop you. I know it can be scary to think of going outside of the country to a place you've never seen before.Do some research on the country you plan to visit first. It would be a good idea if you could bring a friend or family member along with you considering your not the loner type.

On a budget? I sure am. If I could do it then i'm sure you can.To save money, I booked with WOW air. WOW is an Icelandic low cost airline. I’ve also booked with Easy Jet and Norwegian. Don't let media or others fool you into thinking traveling is just a dream. There are budget airlines that can really save money.

3.Food

Honestly who doesn’t like to eat? This one is probably the most obvious. Even if you’re not big on food I can say that i've experinced some of the best food while I was staying in France. Im not a big eater thankfully. I know Chicago is supposed to be home to some of the best resturants in the food industry but I can honestly say that nothing I've eaten from Chicago was as good as the food I had during my stay in France. Everything I ate was vegeterian friendly. Some of the things I ate include pizza, vegetarian sandwich spaghetti and some croissants.

Going out to eat is a good way to spend time experiencing another culture. If you’re big on social media or a vlogger this would be a great opportunity to take advantage of that. If you are running out of ideas or content. People love to Watch thier favorite creators trying or experiencing new things and culture is no exception.

4 Memories

Remember when I said experiences are better than material gifts? Memories are precious and you are definitely going to have some if you travel abroad. I’d say it’s most enjoyable if you spend time doing it with loved ones. Once you're there most of the work is already done. This is when taking pictures becomes an absolute must. Photos bring nostalgic and euphoric feelings from knowing that you were there. Sometimes I still can't believe I was at the Eiffel tower so I look at my photos to reassure myself .

I used to be absolutely terrified to even imagine getting in a plane. Then I ended up getting on 4 within a week. You'll look back thinking how that experience changed you, and you’ll most likely end up wanting a similar experience. If you're the type of person to travel consecutively, it will surely be difficult for you life to become boring and repetitive because literally everyday will be different than the last.

I suggest making sure time is spent wisely in general because time goes very fast even when we don't realize it so we should all make the most of our lives and seek some new experiences. let your inner adventurer shine and if you have children bring them on for the ride.
