Wine Tasting - El Dorado county
Drive on up to El Dorado foothills
Are you ready for a fun-filled day or perhaps weekend, driving through the Sierra Foothills, sampling quality wine and meeting friendly, entertaining people? One thing we find when we are wine touring--wine tasting folks are friendly as well as the winery staff.
Our daughter and some friends rented a stretch limousine to celebrate her "big" thirtieth birthday and they came home grinning from ear to ear. They had a great day, all dressed up climbing in and out of that huge limo!
The El Dorado county winerieswas their destination-a fun day was their goal. I will tell you about a few, you can check the link above to find the rest!
Boeger Winery is located in Fair Play, Ca. and claims to make exceptional wines. They began in 1972 and produce a Petite Sirah that has aromas of sweet tobacco, blackberry, black pepper and fig. Their 2009 Estate Zinfandel is for those who love a jammy Zin! It's soft and supple, with notes of red raspberry, dark berries and a hint of pepper.
Don't you just love the way they describe their wines!
Busby Cellers claims to have "Award winning wines and beautiful views", and I believe it! Located in Fairplay, they boast of their Chardonnay, Grenache Ros'e and Barbera.
Colibri Ridge Winery & Vineyard
Colibri Ridge Winery & Vineyard is located high on a ridge top within the "Fair Play" American Viticultural Area (AVA). They offer a picnic area among mature oak trees and large granite rock outcroppings, providing a romantic atmosphere. They serve a selection of Petite Sirah, Mourvedre, Zinfandel, Syrah- and the list goes on to include several white wines as well.
Fitzpatrick Winery and lodge
Fitzpatrick is one of my favorites in the Fairplay area, as the view is fantastic from their deck, the wines are very affordable and when we visited they had a band playing soft rock as the fragrance of pizza from their outdoor pizza oven mingled with the wine. They very often have live music on the deck.
Fitzpatrick is also a lodge with several rooms, a very comfortable lounging room for guests and all the staff is extremely pleasant and accommodating. We would love to go back and spend a night or two there sometime in the near future.
I hope this has given you the urge to climb in your car, pick up some friends (or do like our daughter and hire a limo for the day) and head up the road to El Dorado County. It is about a one-and-a -half to two hour drive from Sacramento and well worth the time spent! Hope to see you there sometime.
